Men's Crew Finds Success at King's Head Regatta

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The Temple men's crew team opened the fall racing season with four victories at the King's Head Regatta.
Temple finished 1-2 in the men's club eight. The Owls' "A" boat (Leeds, Wittenstein, Moyer, Chukinas, Zawycky, Kipp, Williams, Ching, Funchion) won the event in a time of 15:34.78. The "B" boat (Shaughnessy, Wren, Thull, Adams, Sicko, Boettger, Brown, Juers, Dumeer) took second in 16:12.53. Both crews topped the US Merchant Marine Academy's third-place effort of 18:41.09.Â
The Owls' recorded nearly a one-minute victory in the men's club four race. Temple's "A" boat (Mason, Grochowski, Theuret, Baldo, Vecchione) finished in 17:01.59, ahead of Baltimore Rowing Club (17:56.07), TCNJ (18:42.40), and the US Merchant Marine Academy (19:01.54).
Temple also came away with a 1-2-3 finish in the men's open four category. The Owls "A" boat won it in 16:52.63, while the "B" boat took second in 17:20.27. Temple's "C" squad took third in 18:41.32.
In men's pairs, the Owl team of Kovach/Judge nabbed an open water victory (17:59.93 - 18:55.91) over Kaess/Noonan of Whitemarsh Boat Club.
The Owls are back in action on October 15 competing in the Navy Day Regatta on the Schuylkill River.Â
