Men's Basketball Suffers First Home Loss, Falling to #1/1 Villanova

12.13.17 | Men's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA - Despite a career-high 27 points from Quinton Rose, the top-ranked Villanova Wildcats proved too much for Temple men's basketball in an 87-67 loss for the Owls (6-3) in front of a capacity crowd at the Liacouras Center. The win gives Villanova the outright Philadelphia Big 5 title at 4-0 as the Wildcats (11-0) won their 22nd straight city series contest.

> Temple shot over 47 percent from the field, but was out-done by the Wildcats who shot 60 percent overall.
> The Owls got in an early 20-point hole and briefly made it a game down the stretch of the first half, but then trailed by double digits for the final 26 minutes of the contest.

> The Owls trailed by 20 after nine minutes of action, 25-5, and again at 28-8 before picking up the pace on offense.
> Rose drained three straight buckets from long range in what became a 16-3 run, narrowing the deficit to seven points, 28-21 at 6:45.
> Villanova answered with a 9-0 run, and Temple could get no closer than 14 points the rest of the half or the game. The Wildcats took a 46-29 lead into the break.

Second Half
