12.3.17 | Women's Fencing
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Temple fencing looked strong in its dual meet opener, going 4-1 at Vassar's Traditional Meet on Sunday. The Owls edged Harvard, ranked seventh at the end of last season, and lost only to city rival Penn, ranked sixth in last year's final poll.

> The sabre squad had the best results of the day for Temple at 4-1, and helped clinch the Harvard win with a 7-2 victory over the Crimson.
Individual Highlights
> Junior Auset Muhammad had a strong day for the foil squad, going 10-2 overall with perfect 3-0 marks against Penn, Sacred Heart and Vassar.
> Freshman Eva Hinds and sophomore Malia Hee finished 10-1 and 9-2, respectively, for the sabre squad.

Quotable
> "We started out with a strong opponent, and we were up for the challenge but didn't get the job done. We were able to bounce back and did a good job rest of the day. We stayed focused and the team's support for each excellent. For the foil squad, Auset fenced really well today and had a great result against Penn, going 3-0." - Head Coach Dr. Nikki Franke
"Overall, the sabre squad did really, really well and had a strong showing, dropping only one hard-fought match to Penn. Harvard was missing a strong fencer but the win against them was still really nice for us. Our squad showed we should be respected. Malia did really well and started her season strong today, and showed she's ready and will continue to get stronger. For Eva to fence so well at her first-ever dual meet was great. She showed she's adapted well to college fencing and she stayed focused." - Assistant Coach Josh Herring
"The epee squad did very well. We had a winning record of 3-2 with a lot of close matches and both losses coming by just a single point. We've definitely started off strong and now we have the whole rest of the season to put those lessons to use. Ally fenced really well and was very consistent, calm and collected. She showed a lot of maturity and it made it easier for the rest of her teammates as they could feed off of that." - Volunteer Assistant Coach Alex Keft
