8.24.17 | Men's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA – Wisconsin, which has made 19 straight NCAA Tournament appearances including two trips to the Final Four in the last three years, highlights the Temple men's basketball 2017-18 non-conference schedule released today.

Besides the Badgers, the Owls' schedule has two other teams, Dayton and Villanova, which competed in the 2017 NCAA Tournament, along with Clemson and Georgia that participated in the NIT last year.  George Washington, which competed in the 2017 College Basketball Invitational (CBI), makes six postseason teams on the non-conference slate.

"In the tradition of Temple Basketball we have one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country," said Temple head coach Fran Dunphy. "It features a tremendous tournament in the Charleston Classic, high profile opponents at the Liacouras Center and on the road."

The Owls open their season at the Gildan Charleston Classic with their first-ever meeting against Old Dominion on Nov. 16.  It marks the third time the Cherry and White have played in the three-game tournament in the event's 10-year history.

Temple returns to Philadelphia to take on La Salle at Tom Gola Arena on Nov. 26 before traveling to our nation's capital to play George Washington in the BB&T Classic on Dec. 3.

Coach Dunphy and his team finally debut at the Liacouras Center with 2015 NCAA Finalist Wisconsin on Dec. 6.  It marks the latest home opener since Temple hosted Fresno State on Dec. 9, 1997, the first-ever game in the Owls' home venue.

Wisconsin marks the start of a four-game homestand over an 11-day window. The three other home dates are all against Philadelphia area schools: Saint Joseph's (Dec. 9) Villanova (Dec. 13) and Drexel (Dec. 16).

Temple's final non-conference contests are on the road against Georgia (Dec. 22) and Penn (Jan. 20).

The Owls will also play in a high-profile, neutral site event to be announced in early September.

The American Athletic Conference dates are expected to be announced in September as well.
