Fencers Start the New Year Strong at the January NAC
1.8.18 | Women's Fencing
VIRGINIA BEACH - After battling the snow bomb cyclone to get to the January North American Cup (NAC), Temple fencing posted some strong results over the four-day competition. Nearly all of the Owls participated in at least one event, with some younger members of the team also competing in the junior events.
"For just coming back off break as we prepare for our next dual meet, this was a great start for us and we had some good results against the best competition out there," said Temple head coach Dr. Nikki Franke. "The girls got a lot of fencing in and improved as the competition went on which is what we were looking for. I'm very pleased with how things progressed throughout the weekend."
Highlighting the Owls' finishes were two finalists in Division I events. Sophomore Malia Hee tied for 11th among 136 fencers in Division I women's sabre, and senior Safa Ibrahim placed 14th among 179 fencers in Division I women's epee.
Temple had an additional six fencers earn spots in the top 64 in their respective events, and junior Fiona Fong placed seventh in the epee classification event.
