Field Hockey Hosts Quinnipiac for Pride Day on Friday

PHILADELPHIA - Temple field hockey is back home for its final two games of the 2018 season, hosting BIG EAST foe Quinnipiac and non-conference opponent Saint Francis. First up at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26 are the Bobcats (5-10, 1-5), who recently snapped a six-game losing streak with a 2-0 win over Sacred Heart.
On Sunday against Saint Francis (PA), the Owls (2-14, 0-6) will honor their four-member senior class for Senior Day prior to the start of the 1 p.m. game. Check back to OwlSports.com later in the week for a Senior Day game preview.

> The Owls are celebrating Pride Day and both teams will be wearing Pride warm-up shirts. The team is also selling t-shirts for $30 each to benefit the Trevor Project, an American non-profit organization founded in 1998 focused on suicide prevention efforts among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth.

>The Owls are looking to go out on top after falling 3-1 at Villanova in their only game last week. Temple has one win at home this year as the Owls beat Towson 2-1 on Sept. 23. Temple is out of contention for the BIG EAST Tournament, but hoping to end the season on a positive note.
> At Villanova, junior Kathryn Edgar scored the lone goal for the Owls. It was her third of the season, tying her with junior Lucy Reed for the most on the team. Edgar continues to lead the team in points (10) and assists (4).Â
> Junior Becky Gerhart scored her first goal of the season at Drexel on Oct. 14 while freshman Claire Thomas made her second defensive save in the Old Dominion game that same weekend.
> With 16 defensive saves in 2018, Temple leads all teams in NCAA Division I. Sophomore Dani Batze has seven defensive saves to rank first in the nation while Gerhart has four (eighth in the nation).
> The Owls' staff was completed on Sept. 18 with the official hiring of assistant coach Ross Gilham-Jones, a native of Great Britain. Gilham-Jones, who works primarily with the team's attack, most recently spent almost a year coaching the WC Eagles club team out of Pottstown.

> The Bobcats are coming off a two-game weekend after losing 3-0 to #25 Old Dominion and besting Sacred Heart 2-0. Over the weekend, Hannah Teicher made a career high of nine saves facing Old Dominion and recorded her first career shutout against Sacred Heart.Â
> Blanka Strubbe and Isabella Sinibaldi recorded their first career goals for Quinnipiac in the match against Sacred Heart.Â
> Senior Elisa Ruiz Martinez has been selected to participate in the Victory Sports Tours/ NFHCA Division Senior Game that will take place during the NCAA Championships. Ruiz Martinez is the fourth straight Bobcat to participate in the game for Quinnipiac.Â
> Junior Ines Ruiz Martinez, sister of Elisa, leads the team in defensive saves after tallying five for the season.Â

Temple and Quinnipiac are 1-1 all-time in two meetings so far. The Owls fell to the Bobcats 1-0 on the road last season after winning 3-2 at home the year before.
