Aflakpui, Alston Named Men's Basketball Captains

PHILADELPHIA - Senior Ernest Aflakpui and Shizz Alston, Jr. have been named the captains of the 2018-19 Temple men's basketball team, head coach Fran Dunphy announced at a media gathering prior to Wednesday's practice.
Both two year starters, Alston, whose father, Levan, also played at Temple, is on pace to score 1,000 points (currently 946 points) and break the school's career free throw percentage mark (he currently makes 86 percent). Aflakpui, who has 316 points and 334 rebounds, owns a career .594 field goal percentage (133-224).
"Shizz and Ern and fine young men and great leaders," said Temple head coach Fran Dunphy. "They have been with the program their entire careers and are both deserving of this honor. Their leadership will be invaluable to the success of this year's team."
Temple returns nine letterwinners, including three starters from last year's team that posted a 17-16 record and advanced to the 2018 National Invitation Tournament. The Owls open the 2018-19 campaign on Nov. 6 (7:30 pm) at the Liacouras Center against Philadelphia Big 5 rival La Salle.
