Temple Hosts Georgetown Friday, Will Face #14 Saint Joseph's Sunday

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple field hockey team has a pair of games this weekend, as the Owls face Georgetown at home on Friday Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. and go on the road at #14 Saint Joseph's on Sunday Oct. 7 at noon.Â

Scouting Temple
> The Owls are coming off an 0-2 weekend after falling 7-0 to #2 UConn and 3-0 to city rival Penn. Despite the tough competition, senior Chloe Johnson posted two double-digit save performances over the weekend, giving her six for the season, while junior Kathryn Edgar led the team in shots.
> Four different players have scored two goals each for the Owls to lead the team offensively, including Edgar, who also has three assists for a team-high seven points.
> Edgar was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Sept. 24 after scoring two goals and adding an assist in the Owls' 1-1 week. Her first goal was the game-winner on a penalty stroke with time expired to lift Temple to a 2-1 home win over Towson.
> Leading Temple in goal is Johnson with 81 saves and a save percentage of .730. Her 9.80 saves per game rank her second among all players in NCAA Division I. As a team, the Owls also rank second nationally with 10.09 saves per game.
> With 11 defensive saves in 2018, Temple leads all teams in NCAA Division I. Sophomore Dani Batze has five defensive saves (tied for first in the nation) while junior Becky Gerhart has four (tied for third in the nation).
> The Owls' staff was completed on Sept. 18 with the official hiring of assistant coach Ross Gilham-Jones, a native of Great Britain. Gilham-Jones, who works primarily with the team's attack, most recently spent almost a year coaching the WC Eagles club team out of Pottstown.

> Georgetown is currently 8-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference under the leadership of their new coaching staff. Head coach Christy Longacre and assistants Kelsey Smither and Aliyah Graves-Brown are all coaching their first season with the Hoyas.
> The Hoyas are coming off a 7-1 home win against Lehigh. Five different players posted goals in the victory, including Cami Osborne, who leads the team in points with eight goals and two assists (18 points) for the season.
> Freshman goalkeeper Ciara Weets was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after making eight saves against #16 Old Dominion. Weets' performance assisted the Hoyas' first program win against a nationally ranked team.
> Ten players have scored for the Hoyas this season, including freshmen Sydney Stephenson and Halle Gill who have both scored twice this season.
Scouting Saint Joseph's
> Saint Joseph's, ranked 14th in the NFHCA Coaches Poll as of Oct. 2, is 8-2 on the season including a perfect 3-0 at home.
> The Hawks most recently recorded a 5-0 victory against Saint Francis. Junior Victoria Kammerinke competed in the cage and tallied her fourth shutout of the season.
> Tonya Botherway, who ranks fourth among all players in the NCAA Division I with 1.3 goals per game, scored the first goal of the game for the Hawks. Botherway received Player and Rookie of the Week honors after her weekend performance.
> Senior Anna Willocks made program history in the game against UMass. Willocks tallied the 156th point of her career, surpassing Linda Buonanno who posted 155 points between 1983-86.
