Alston Named American Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Week
11.12.18 | Men's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA - Temple University senior guard Shizz Alston, Jr. has been named the men's basketball co-Player of the Week for the American Athletic Conference for the week ending November 11. Alston shares the league's first weekly honor with Wichita State forward Markis McDuffie.Â
The Temple co-captain averaged 21.5 points, 6.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds in helping lead the Owls to a 2-0 week. The Philadelphia native started the season off with a 13-point, eight-assist performance in a 75-67 win over Philadelphia Big 5 rival La Salle on Nov. 6. He then exploded for a career-high 30 points, hitting nine of 17 from the field, seven of 12 from three-point range while grabbing five rebounds and dishing four assists in an 83-67 win over Detroit Mercy on Nov. 9. Alston, who entered the year as Temple's all-time free throw percentage leader, made all 11 of his attempts on the week from the charity stripe.
Alston is first Temple player to earn AAC Player of the Week honors since Obi Enechionyia accomplished it two seasons ago (Nov. 28, 2016). He is also just the sixth Owl to garner the award since the conference was formed in 2013.
