Men's Basketball to Face Davidson in Inaugural Boardwalk Classic

PHILADELPHIA - One of four games in the first-ever Boardwalk Classic presented by Citi will feature Temple men's basketball taking on Davidson (8-1) at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City (ESPN3 / 1210 AM WPHT). The Owls (8-2), who won three consecutive conference tournament titles at Boardwalk Hall from 2008-10, are off to their best start to a season since 2012-13.
Scouting Temple
> Temple is an impressive 8-2 to start the season, which is the Owls' best start since the 2012-13 team went 10-2 before dropping their third game.
> The Owls have an impressive history at Boardwalk Hall with an overall record of 11-6, including a 10-3 mark in Atlantic 10 Tournament play with back-to-back-to-back championships in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
. Senior guard Shizz Alston, Jr. scored a career-high 31 points to lead Temple to a come-from-behind, 65-63 win over UMass in the Owls' most recent game, hitting 11-of-12 at the free throw line. For the year, he's hit 40-of-44 free throws (.909) to rank second in the American Athletic Conference and tie for 19th in NCAA Division I.
> Alston and junior guard Quinton Rose are averaging 18.3 and 16.4 points per game, respectively, to lead the team and rank sixth and eighth in the American Athletic Conference.
> Senior Ernest Aflakpui tied his career high with 12 rebounds at Missouri and ranks fourth in the AAC with 7.3 rpg. Sophomore Nate Pierre-Louis tied his career high with 13 boards at SJU and ranks 12th in the AAC with 6.4 rpg.
> Rose and Pierre-Louis are averaging 2.5 and 2.0 steals per game, respectively, to lead the team and second and fourth in the conference. As a team, Temple ranks 21st in the nation with 9.1 steals per game.
> Alston, Jr. scored 25 points vs. Georgia, getting his 1,000th career point early in a 16-point second half. He is the 53rd player in program history to reach the 1,000 point plateau and has now scored 1,129 points to rank 43rd.
