Gymnastics Hosts 2018 Ken Anderson Invitational on Saturday

PHILADELPHIA –Coming off a win at the historic Palestra, Temple Gymnastics will host the 2018 Ken Anderson Invitational on Saturday Feb. 17. The quad meet set for a 1 p.m. start in McGonigle Hall will feature Bridgeport, West Chester, and Ursinus.
Temple Gymnastics Goes Pink
> In support of breast cancer awareness, Temple gymnastics encourages all attendees to wear pink to Saturday's meet.
>Temple gymnastics invites you to support the Fox Chase Cancer Center at Saturday's meet with a donation for breast cancer research. Fox Chase's mission encompasses excellence both in clinical care and research to advance what is known about cancer and how it is treated. In Honor of Ken Anderson
> Saturday's competition will be held in honor of the late Ken Anderson, a former head coach of the Temple women's gymnastics program. Anderson acted as head coach for 21 seasons before passing away in 2008 at the young age of 52 following a longtime battle with cancer. During his tenure as Temple women's gymnastics coach, Anderson boasted a 228-282 all-time record and led the 1992 squad to a team appearance at the NCAA Regionals. As the all-time winningest women's gymnastics coach in school history, Anderson earned numerous accolades including Atlantic 10 Conference Coach of the Year in both 1987 and 1992. He was also named the NCAA Northeast Regional Coach of the Year in 1989.
Scouting the Owls
> Temple enters Saturday's competition ranked fifth in the North East region, maintaining its spot at No. 1 in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).
> On Sunday Feb. 11, the Owls posted a 194.70, its second best score of the season, to win Penn's quad meet with Bridgeport and Ursinus. Temple pulled a 49.050 on floor, where five Owls scored a 9.8 or higher. Freshman Tori Edwards hit a 9.850 to tie her career-high while freshmen Madison Rennix, Jordyn Oster, and Monica Servido each reached career-best scores of 9.8. In just her second time competing all-around for the Owls, Servidio earned first place out of four all-arounders at Penn with a score of 38.975. The freshman was named ECAC Gymnast of the Week for her efforts. Senior Sahara Gipson shined on vault, earning a season-high 9.850 to win the vault title. Everett and Edwards earned the 2-3 spots with vault scores of 9.825 and 9.750, respectively.
Scouting the Purple Knights
> Bridgeport ranks sixth in the North East region for the week of Feb. 12.
> At Penn on Sunday, Bridgeport placed second overall with a 194.225. As a team, the Purple Knights posted a 48.075 on vault, 48.750 at the uneven bars, a 48.250 on the balance beam, and floor score of 49.150. Kelli Tereshko (9.8) took the individual bars title while Maritza Futch and Kathryn Doran tied for second a pair of 9.775's. Maya Reimers placed first on floor with a score of 9.925. Lauren Ramirez snagged the balance beam title with a 9.825.
Scouting the Golden Rams
> West Chester will enter this weekend's competition ranked 11th in the region.
> On Saturday, Feb. 10 West Chester placed third at the Big Red Invitational hosted at Cornell. The Golden Rams topped SUNY Brockport with a score of 190.600 to 190.575. The Rams fell to Cornell, which finished with a top score of 193.625 and Ithaca College, which posted a 191.375.Mryanda Marshall scored a career-high 9.825 on bars to place first overall in the event.
Scouting the Grizzly Bears
> Against the Owls, Penn, and Bridgeport on Sunday, Ursinus recorded a team score of 186.900, placing fourth overall. Its best score of the afternoon came from Eleanor LaFountain who grabbed a 9.750 floor score from the judges.
