Gymnastics Tops Ithaca, Penn and Ursinus in Home Opener

PHILADELPHIA—Temple women's gymnastics hosted Ithaca, Penn and Ursinus Sunday afternoon at McGonigle Hall. The Owls had a dominant performance, posting the highest team score on all four events, sweeping the podium on vault and bars and going one-two on beam and floor. Temple won the meet with a 194.150. Penn took second with a 190.100, Ithaca was third with a 185.750 and Ursinus finished fourth with a 174.175.
Vault
> Temple started off the meet on vault, recording a 48.1.
> The Owls swept the event, with junior Jaylene Everett placing third with a 9.675, junior Jazmyn Estrella earning second with a 9.7 and sophomore Monica Servidio taking the title with a 9.725.
Bars
> The Owls were strong from start to finish on bars, scoring a 48.7.
> Junior Daisy Todd kicked off the event with a 9.7. Sophomores Delaney Garin and Tori Edwards also notched solid performances, scoring 9.65 and 9.7, respectively.
> Temple swept the podium on bars as well. Freshman Ariana Castrence and Servidio tied for second, each scoring a 9.725. Estrella anchored the event for the Owls, tying her season-best with a 9.85 and earning first place.
Beam
> Temple posted its highest event total of the afternoon on beam, scoring a 48.750. This score is also the team's top beam score of the season thus far.
> Garin and Castrence both had stellar performances, each scoring a 9.75.
> Estrella and Servidio went one-two in the event. Estrella earned second place with a career-best 9.8. Servidio earned her second title of the meet, tying her career-best with a 9.825.
Floor
> The Owls tallied a 48.6 in their final event of the competition.
> Sophomore Erica Fuchs started off the lineup with a career-best 9.675.
> Everett earned second place on floor with a stellar 9.8. Senior India Anderson's thrilling performance earned her a career-best 9.9 and the title.
All-Around
> Castrence competed in the all-around for the Owls. She scored a 38.275 and won the event. This is her second all-around title of the season.

> "That was a hard-fought meet and I'm happy with the win," said head coach Josh Nilson. "The score was tough, but a win's a win. We need to build on this. I'm very happy with the team's performance as a whole. The season is still young, but we have to stop making some of those bigger mistakes and fine tune a few things."
