Gymnastics Set to Face Pitt and UNC Friday

PHILADELPHIA— Temple women's gymnastics will travel to Pittsburgh to take on Pitt and North Carolina on Friday, Feb. 1. The competition is set for 7 p.m. at the Fitzgerald Field House.
The Owls
>The Owls are led by head coach Josh Nilson, who is in his first season leading the Cherry and White.
> The squad is captained by senior India Anderson, junior Daisy Todd and sophomore Delaney Garin.
> Last time out, Temple hosted Ithaca, Penn and Ursinus Sunday for its home opener Pink Meet. The Owls had a dominant performance, posting the highest team score on all four events, sweeping the podium on vault and bars and going one-two on beam and floor. Temple won the meet with a 194.150. Penn took second with a 190.100, Ithaca was third with a 185.750 and Ursinus finished fourth with a 174.175.
> Temple had its strongest showing on beam in its home opener. The Owls posted a season-high 48.750 in the event. Garin and Ariana Castrence both had stellar performances, each scoring a 9.75. Jazmyn Estrella and Monica Servidio went one-two in the event. Estrella earned second place with a career-best 9.8. Servidio earned her second event title of the meet, tying her career-best with a 9.825.
> Anderson was named ECAC Specialist of the Week for her outstanding performance on Sunday. The Allendale, S.C. native's performance on floor earned her a career-best 9.9. She took first place in the event and posted the highest score of the afternoon. Anderson is a two-time recipient of this accolade.
Scouting Pitt
> Pitt is led by Samantha Snider, who is in her second season at the helm of the program.
> Last time out, Pitt hosted EAGL foe George Washington. The Panthers defeated the Colonials, 195.175-194.625.
> The team posted a 48.9 on vault, 48.55 on bars, 48.8 on beam and 48.925 on floor. Pitt's team scores on bars, beam and floor were season highs.
> The Panthers lead the all-time series against the Owls, 17-10. The squads last met earlier this season at the Jan. 18 UNH quad meet. Pitt edged out Temple, 193.725-191.950.
Scouting North Carolina
> North Carolina is led by head coach Derek Galvin, who has led the Tar Heels for 38 seasons.
> Carolina last competed on Jan.25 against cross-town rival NC State. The Tar Heels fell to the Wolfpack, 195.2-194.650.
> The squad scored a 49.125 on vault, a 48.875 on bars, a 47.7 on beam and a 48.95 on floor. Carolina's vault and bars scores were its highest of the season.
> The Tar Heels hold the advantage in the series against the Owls, 22-3. The teams last met in 2018 in Chapel Hill. Carolina came out on top, 195.3-194.375.
