Volleyball Falls to Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Temple volleyball team couldn't get its offense going on Sunday, falling 3-0 at Memphis. The Tigers picked up the win in straight sets, 25-17, 25-18, 25-20, to improve to 12-8 overall, 2-6 in the conference, while Temple dips to 10-9, 1-7.
Keys to the Match
> Temple rebounded from a slow first set offensively, increasing it's hitting percentage each set.
> However, the Owls were unable to stop the Memphis attack, as the Tigers hit at a .404 clip.
> Memphis pulled away late in the first set, finishing it 25-17.
> In the final two frames, Memphis grabbed early leads and held, despite late Owls' rallies in both.

> Sophomore Gem Grimshaw led the Owls with eight kills, while classmate Peyton Boyd added seven and freshman Naomi Janetzke finished with six.
> Sophomore Tyler Lindgren dished out 16 assists, while junior Selina Merfol added 12 assists.
> junior Averi Salvador notched eight assists and junior Katerina Papazoglou and freshman Nikki Saito each added seven.
Set One: Memphis 25, Temple 17
> Temple led 9-6 before a huge Memphis run turned the tides.
> With the Tigers up 18-12, Temple strung together three points to cut the lead to three.
> That was as close as the Owls would get, as Memphis used a 7-2 run to take set one.
Set Two: Memphis 25, Temple 18
> Memphis took hold of a tight set two at the midway point, using a 6-2 run to lead 13-9.
> Temple momentarily stopped the bleeding, but the Tigers responded with five straight to go up 18-10.
> The Owls battled back late, but Memphis finished out the 25-18 win.
Set Three: Memphis 25, Temple 20
> The Memphis momentum carried into the third set, as the Tigers jumped out to a 9-3 advantage.
> Temple cut it to 12-8, but Memphis pushed its advantage back to 18-10.
> The Owls made one final comeback attempt, closing it to 24-20, but Memphis got the final point on a kill to close the set and match.
