Gymnastics to Compete at Penn’s Pink Meet Sunday

PHILADELPHIA— Temple women's gymnastics will travel across town to Penn to compete in its Pink Meet on Sunday, Feb. 10 (NBC Sports Philadelphia Plus). The Owls will take on the Quakers, as well as the Bridgeport Purple Knights and the West Virginia Mountaineers at the Palestra at 1 p.m. The meet will be televised on NBC Sports Philadelphia+.
The Owls
>The Owls are led by head coach Josh Nilson, who is in his first season leading the Cherry and White.
> The team is captained by senior India Anderson, junior Daisy Todd and sophomore Delaney Garin.
> Last time out, Temple (7-6, 1-0 ECAC) defeated Pitt and UNC in a tri-meet matchup on Feb. 1, taking the title with a 194.200. UNC (5-3, 2-1 EAGL) finished second with a 194.050 and Pitt (5-4, 1-2 EAGL) was third with a 193.550. Temple posted season-highs on beam and vault.
> Temple had its strongest performance on beam last weekend. The team posted a season-high 48.975. The Owls were superb through the entire lineup. Sophomores Jordyn Oster and Garin put on impressive performances, scoring 9.7 and 9.725, respectively. Freshman Ariana Castrence was key for the squad, earning a career-best 9.825. Junior Jazmyn Estrella and Servidio continued their outstanding beam work from their last competition. Estrella scored a career-best 9.825 and Servidio anchored the Owls with a career-best 9.9 to tie for second place in the event.
> Servidio earned ECAC Gymnast of the Week for her standout performance in Temple's tri-meet victory over Pitt and UNC. She won her second all-around title of the season and posted or tied her career-best on vault, bars and beam. The sophomore scored a 39.025 in all-around, with a 9.775 on vault, 9.75 on bars, 9.9 on beam and 9.6 on floor. Servidio's performances on bars and beam tied her for second place in each event.
Scouting Bridgeport
> Bridgeport is led by head coach Byron Knox, who is in his 15th season at the helm of the program.
> Last time out, Bridgeport won Yale's Don Tonry Invite on Feb. 2 with a 194.200. The Purple Knights defeated Yale, SCSU and Springfield.
> The team won three of the four events, posting a 48.8 on vault, 48.85 on bars, 49.05 on beam and 47.5 on floor.
> The Owls lead the all-time series against the Purple Knights, 19-11. The teams last met on Jan. 18 at the UNH quad meet. Bridgeport came out on top, 193.575-191.950.
Scouting Penn
> Penn is led by John Ceralde, who has been the head coach of the Quakers for 13 seasons.
> Penn last competed on Feb. 3 in its Teal Meet. The Quakers won the meet with a season-high 193.900, defeating Cornell, Brown and Ursinus.
> The squad scored a 47.925 on vault, 48.525 on bars, 48.775 on beam and 48.675 on floor.
> Temple holds the advantage in the series against Penn, 55-43. The teams last met on Jan. 27 at Temple's Pink Meet. The Owls downed the Quakers, 194.150-190.100.

> Last weekend, West Virginia competed in a home tri-meet against No. 7 Denver and Iowa State. The Mountaineers placed third with a 196.125.

> The Mountaineers lead the all-time series against the Owls, 29-3. The squads last met in 2018 at a Pitt quad meet. West Virginia edged Temple, 196.075-194.250.

> Graduate Assistant Coach Zaakira Muhammad was a four-year member of West Virginia's gymnastics team and is a 2018 graduate. As a Mountaineer, she garnered All-American honors, was a two-time team captain and was a three-time recipient of the Linda Burnette-Good Award, which honors the team's most valuable gymnast. Muhammad's accolades include earning a spot on the NCAA All-American Second Team and All-Big 12 Championship Team in floor, qualifying for the NCAA National Championship in 2017 and tallying over 1500 career points. Muhammad ranks No. 19 in West Virginia gymnastics history with 10 career scores of 9.9 or better.
