Shizz Alston, Jr. Named to USBWA All-District Team

PHILADELPHIA – Senior guard Shizz Alston, Jr. was named to the 10-member USBWA All-District II team announced today. Alston is the first Temple player to earn the honor since Khalif Wyatt was named to the 2012-13 squad. He is the sixth Owl to garner the recognition since 2000.
Alston, who was named first team All-AAC on Monday, has had a sensational final season for the Owls. The 6-4 guard has set a new school record for consecutive games with a made three-pointers (42 and counting) and is on pace to set records for single season (.906) and career (.884) free throw percentage. He already has the record for consecutive free throws made (52 set last season).
Also this season, Alston, who has been named AAC Player of the Week three times, became the eighth Temple player to dish 400 career assists and the 12th player to score 600 points in a season. His 91 three-pointers made rank fifth on the Owls' all-time single season list and he could join Dionte Christmas as the only Owls to eclipse the century mark. His 90.6 free throw percentage leads the AAC and is on pace for a new single season record at Temple. His 5.1 assist per game mark ranks third in the conference with his 1.5 steals per game standing at eighth.
Other Temple players besides Alston and Wyatt to earn the honor since 2000 are Dionte Christmas (2007-08, 2008-09), Mardy Collins (2004-05), David Hawkins (2003-04) and Lynn Greer (2001-02).
Third-seed Temple (23-8, 13-5 AAC) opens play in the 2019 Air Force Reserve American Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Championship on Friday (9:00 pm ET/ESPNU/1210 AM/WPHT) against the winner of sixth-seed Wichita State (17-13, 10-8) vs. 11th-seed ECU (10-20, 3-15).
