Gymnastics Set for ECAC Championships on Saturday

PHILADELPHIA— Temple women's gymnastics will compete in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships, hosted by Cornell, on Saturday, March 23 in pursuit of the program's first conference title. The Owls, ranked first in the ECAC, will take on Brown, Cornell, Penn, William & Mary and Yale at 12 p.m. in Newman Arena.  

The Owls
>The Owls are led by head coach Josh Nilson, who is in his first season at the helm of the Cherry and White.
> Last time out, Temple (14-14, 3-1 ECAC) closed out the regular season on a high note, as the team notched a first-place finish and sophomore Monica Servidio broke the program's all-around record. The Owls took first on vault, beam and floor en route to their victory over Bridgeport (194.825) and Brown (194.075).
> Temple's best event last weekend was floor, as the team posted its second-highest score of the season with a 49.225. Sophomore Erica Fuchs started off for the Owls will an impressive 9.8. Junior Jaylene Everett and freshman Ariana Castrence continued the momentum, each earning a 9.825. Servidio's superb routine garnered a career-best 9.875 and senior India Anderson tied her career-best with a dazzling 9.9 to tie for first in the event.
> Servidio earned ECAC Gymnast of the Week honors for the second time this season following her record-breaking performance in Sunday's tri meet against Brown and Bridgeport. She was nothing short of spectacular in Temple's regular season finale. She broke the program's all-around record with a 39.225, smashing her previous all-around career-best of 39.05. Helping her team to a first-place finish and season-high on vault, Servidio went 9.8 on vault, 9.725 on bars, 9.825 on beam and a career-best 9.875 on floor.
> There are several Owls to watch who are ranked in the top three in the ECAC in their respective events. Castrence and Everett are strong on vault, as they are ranked No. 1 and No. 3 in the conference, respectively. On bars, Jazmyn Estella is ranked No. 3. Servidio leads the ECAC on beam, owning the No. 1 spot and Anderson in ranked No. 1 on floor. Servidio and Castrence are formidable in the all-around competition too, as they are ranked one-two.
 
Scouting Brown
> Brown is led by Sara Carver-Milne, who is in her 17th season as head coach of the Bears.
> The team last competed on Sunday, March 17 against Temple and Bridgeport. The Bears scored a 194.075 to take third. The team posted a 48.65 on vault, 49.75 on bars, 48.1 on beam and 48.85 on floor.
> Mei Li Costa is a gymnast to watch for the Bears. She is ranked No. 4 on vault and No. 2 on bars in the ECAC.
 
Scouting Cornell
> Cornell is led by head coach Paul Beckwith, who is in his 24th season at the helm of the program.
> Last time out, Cornell competed against Rutgers on Sunday, March 17. The Big Red posted a 193 in its loss to the Scarlet Knights. The squad scored a 47.65 on vault, 48.05 on bars, 48.3 on beam and a 49 on floor.
> Donna Webster, Claire Haklik and Izzy Herceg are threats for the Big Red. Webster is No. 2 in the conference on vault, Haklkik in No. 2 on floor and Herceg in No. 3 on floor.
 
Scouting Penn
> Penn is coached by John Ceralde, who has led the Quakers for 13 seasons.
> On Friday, March 15, Penn earned a 191.9 against William & Mary. The team posted a 47.75 on vault, 48.075 on bars, 47.95 on beam and 48.125 on floor.
> Natalie Yang is strong for the Quakers on bars, ranking No. 4 in the ECAC.
 
Scouting William & Mary
> William & Mary is led by head coach Mary Lewis, who is in her 25th season with the Tribe.
> Last time out, the team faced Penn, defeating the Quakers with a 192.45. The squad scored a 48.175 on vault, 48.2 on bars, 47.625 on beam and 48.45 on floor.
> Samantha Sakti and Caroline Caponi are gymnasts to watch for the Quakers. Sakti ranks No. 4 in the conference on floor and Caponi is No. 4 in the all-around.
 
Scouting Yale
> The Bulldogs are led by Barbara Tonry, who has been at the helm of the program for 46 seasons.
> Yale last competed on Friday, March 15 against Illinois-Champaign, UC Davis and Washington. The Bulldogs placed fourth with a 194.725. The team scored a 48.225 on vault, 48.725 on bars, 48.975 on beam and 48.8 on floor.
> Jessica Wang are Jacey Baldovino are key for the Bulldogs. Wang ranks No. 1 on bars and Baldovino is No. 4 on bars and No. 3 on beam.
