CHERRY HILL, N.J. -- The Temple lightweight crew squad had a solid day one at the 2019 Knecht Cup on the Cooper River. The Owls competed in the heavyweight events, with both boats earning spots in tomorrow's finals.

Lightweight Varsity Eight
> Temple's top lightweight boat finished second in the opening heats, recording a speedy time of 5:58.16, behind only Colgate's heavies (5:53.23).
> With 14 entries, that sent the Owls to the semifinals where they finished fourth out of six boats. Their time of 6:08.60 was in the top six, but unfortunately Temple fell victim to drawing a fast semi, so the Owls will race in the petite final tomorrow.

Lightweight Second Varsity Eight
> Temple's second varsity boat won its opening heat in a time of 6:09.84, out-racing heavyweight boats from Ithaca, Marietta, and Virginia to earn a spot in the grand finals.

Tomorrow's Schedule
> Racing starts for the lightweights with the grand finals of the second varsity eight at 11:32 a.m.
> The varsity eight's petite final goes off at 12:44 p.m.
