Temple Field Hockey Announces 2019 Schedule
5.20.19 | Field Hockey
PHILADELPHIA - First-year Temple field hockey head coach Susan Ciufo has announced the 2019 schedule which has the Owls playing nine home contests including the season opener on Friday, August 30. Temple remains an associate member of the BIG EAST Conference, and will play its league opener at home on September 20.
"We are beyond excited for the upcoming 2019 schedule," said Ciufo. "In just three months with our staff in place this spring, we have seen tremendous improvement. Through our schedule this fall we plan on building on top of the roots and the foundation that we have begin to set this past spring.Â
"We are looking to remain consistent with our effort and work ethic which in turn will elevate us to levels we know we are capable of. We are beyond motivated and excited to look to regain momentum from spring and continue to grow, putting our family at the forefront."Â Â Â
Temple's first game has the Owls hosting Merrimack at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, in Merrimack's first game in Division I. The opening weekend continues with La Salle visiting Howarth Field on Sunday, Sept. 1.
All four city teams on Temple's schedule will be visiting the Owls. Following the La Salle game, Drexel is on the home slate for Sept. 22, Penn on Sept. 29 and Villanova (BIG EAST opponent) on Oct. 25.
Four teams ranked in the final 2018 NFHCA Top 25 Coaches Poll are on the Owls' slate in 2019, including #5 UConn (home on Oct. 4), #11 Rutgers (away on Oct. 27), #16 Liberty (home conference opener on Sept. 20) and #19 Maine (at Kent State on Sept. 7).
The schedule is home-heavy early on with Temple playing seven of its first 10 games at Howarth Field. Starting on Oct. 11, the Owls will play six of their final eight games on the road. The four-team BIG EAST Tournament is set for November 8 and 10, with location TBD.
