Men's Soccer Heads to D.C. to Face No. 13 Georgetown

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's soccer team will play the first of a two-game road stretch on Monday, Sept. 2. as they head to Washington, D.C. to take on the No. 13 Georgetown Hoyas. The Labor Day match-up is set to begin at 1 p.m. at Shaw Field.
 
Last Time Out
> Temple is coming off of a full-house home opener under the lights at the TSC on Thursday, Aug. 29 against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Despite dominating possession and creating threatening opportunities, the Owls ultimately fell due to an early second-half penalty kick in favor of Rutgers.
> Eight Owls wore Cherry and White for the first time in the season-opener, with five newcomers earning their first start.
> Senior Simon Lefebvre played all 90 minutes between for the Owls, earning his first two saves of the season.
> Following suit of last season, senior captain Lukas Fernandes led the team in shots on the day with five, three of which he put on target.
 
Scouting the Owls
> In his second year at the helm of the program, head coach Brian Rowland and the Temple men's soccer team saw a major roster transition from last fall. 14 core players returned this season to be joined by 17 skillful newcomers to help bring the program to new heights.
> In its 14 returners, the Owls brought back offensive and defensive leaders that shined on the pitch in 2018. Fernandes comes back after a standout junior campaign, where the 2018 All-AAC selection led the Owls in goals, assists, shots, shots on goal, points and game-winning goals. To kick off his final season in Cherry and White, Fernandes was unanimously selected to the preseason All-AAC squad.
> Temple remains strong down the spine of the field, returning 2018 All-Rookie selections Andres Charles and Jalen Campbell. The squad remains anchored by captains Pierre Cayet and Nick Sarver in the back line, and Lefebvre defends the Owls between the posts for the second straight year.
 
Scouting the No. 13 Hoyas
> Brian Wiese leads the Hoyas in his 14th season at the helm of the program. Bringing Georgetown to the most success in the program's history, he led the squad to two consecutive BIG EAST Championships the last two seasons and the coaching staff was named the United Soccer Coaches East Region Coaching Staff of the Year in 2018.
> After coming in at No 13 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll, the Hoyas made a statement in their home opener with a dominating 3-1 win over Syracuse. Three second-half goals led Georgetown to victory, coming off the feet of JB Fischer, Derek Dodson and Dante Polvara.
> Georgetown was unanimously picked to finish first in the BIG EAST preseason poll after winning the conference title back-to-back years in 2017 and 2018.
> The Hoyas boast the 2019 BIG EAST Preseason Defensive and Offensive Players of the Year, as senior Dylan Dealis earned the honors from the backline and junior Derek Dodson earned the attacking accolade. Nealis, the 2018 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, was also named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.
