Volleyball Matches Best Start in Program History; Owls Top Radford

PHILADELPHIA — The Temple volleyball team matched its best start in program history with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-17) sweep over visiting Radford to open the 2019 Hilton Philadelphia at Penn's Landing Cherry and White Challenge. The Owls run their record to 7-0, matching the feat also accomplished by the 1983 Temple team.
Individual Highlights
> Junior Katerina Papazoglou led the Owls' offense, racking up 14 kills. She also added 16 digs for a double-double.
> Sophomore Gem Grimshaw tallied nine kills with a career-high 16 digs.
> Sophomore Peyton Boyd tallied seven kills, while freshman Kayla Spells added six kills and a team-best four blocks.
> Sophomore Tyler Lindgren dished out 34 assists, adding eight digs.
> Junior Averi Salvador added 15 digs to round out the box score.
Set One: Temple 25, Radford 17
> After a 2-0 Radford start, Temple rattled off five straight points and did not trail the rest of the way.
> Leading 12-7, Temple saw Radford cut it to 12-11, before a 5-1 Temple run pushed the Owls back on top.
> Temple closed out the first set with a pair of Grimshaw kills to put Temple up 1-0.
Set Two: Temple 25, Radford 19
> Radford had the edge at the start off the second set, leading 9-7 early.
> A Temple timeout changed the course of the set, as the Owls returned to the court and put together a 12-1 run to take a commanding 19-10 lead.
> Radford got back within five, but Temple closed it out on a Miray Bolukbasi winner.
Set Three: Temple 25, Radford 17
> A 4-1 early lead for the Owls was cut to 5-4, but the Owls responded with a 4-1 surge to make it 9-5.
> Temple continued to roll, using an 13-3 run to make it 22-13.
> Radford cut it to 23-17, but Temple got back-to-back winners from Dana Westfield to end the set and the match.
