Gymnastics Travels to West Virginia Sunday

PHILADELPHIA—The Cherry and White will continue their 2020 campaign on the road Sunday as they take on West Virginia and New Hampshire. The competition is set to begin at 2 p.m. and will be held at the WVU Coliseum.
The Owls
> The Owls are led by head coach Josh Nilson, who is in his second season leading the Cherry and White.
> Last time out, Temple competed at home in McGonigle Hall for the first time this season. In their Pink Meet on Saturday night, the Owls posted a 190.675 to defeat Cortland (187.500) and SCSU (185.075). Sophomore Ariana Castrence had an outstanding meet, as she broke the program's all-around record with a 39.275 and took first place in all four events.
> For the second week in a row, the Owls had their strongest showing on vault. The team was solid throughout the lineup, scoring a 48.1. Senior Jaylene Everett had a strong vault, scoring a 9.65 to tie for second place. Anchor Castrence dazzled with an outstanding vault. The sophomore posted a 9.8 to take first on the event.
> Castrence earned her second-straight ECAC Gymnast of the Week honor following her stellar performance in Temple's Pink Meet on Saturday night. The sophomore broke the program's all-around record with a 39.275 (9.8- vault, 9.8- bars, 9.825- beam, 9.85- floor) to take the meet's all-around title. She also won all four event titles to help propel the Cherry and White to victories over Cortland and SCSU. The Waldorf, Md. native is ranked No. 1 in the ECAC on vault, floor and all-around.
Scouting West Virginia
> Last time out, No. 28 West Virginia took on Iowa State on Friday, Jan. 17. The Mountaineers fell to the Cyclones, 195.800-194.500.
> The team posted a 48.275 on vault, 48.675 on bars, 48.725 on beam and 48.825 on floor.
> This will be the 34th meeting between Temple and West Virginia. The Mountaineers hold the advantage in the all-time series, 31-3.
Scouting New Hampshire
> UNH hosted Southern Utah on Saturday, Jan. 18, falling to 195.400-194.975 to the Thunderbirds.
> The squad scored a 48.750 on vault, 48.175 on bars, 48.925 on beam and 49.125 on floor.
> The Wildcats have the advantage in the all-time series against the Owls leading 20-1.
