PHILADELPHIA – Brendan Barry, a two-year starter at Dartmouth, has signed a financial aid agreement to attend Temple University, announced men's basketball coach Aaron McKie. As a graduate transfer, he will be eligible to compete for the Owls following the completion of his undergraduate degree requirements at Dartmouth.
"We are excited to welcome Brendan to the Temple family," said McKie. "He is a veteran player, who has terrific perimeter range that will help stretch opposing teams' defenses. He is also a fine young man who will easily fit into our team culture."
Barry, a 6-2 guard from Fair Haven, N.J. (Rumson-Fair Haven), played three seasons at Dartmouth, starting his final two years (2017-18, 2018-19). One of the top three-point shooters in the nation in 2018-19 (81-182, .445, 10th in 3pt%), he was named the Big Green team MVP with averages of 13.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. In that same season he led the Ivy League in minutes played (35.6 mpg.), assists-to-turnover ratio (2.20) and three-point percentage.
As a sophomore in 2017-18, Barry finished second in the Ivy League with 105 assists (3.9 apg.), becoming the first Dartmouth player with more than 100 assists in a season in 16 years. He also led the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.6) and ranked second in minutes per game (35.0) while averaging 9.8 points per game.
A career 44.5 percent three-point shooter (159-357), he enters this season fourth on the active career list among Division I players for accuracy from behind the arc (minimum 80 3FG).
Barry was awarded a medical hardship after missing the entire 2019-20 season due to injury.
