Lacrosse Drops Tight Game to Rutgers

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple lacrosse team fell 13-11 to visiting Rutgers on Wednesday at Howarth Field. The Owls' season record moves to 1-1 to start the season, while the Scarlet Knights improve to 2-0.

Recapping the Game
> Temple fell behind early, as Rutgers scored the first four goals of the game en route to a 6-4 halftime lead.
> The Owls turned the tables with an extended run to open the second half, regaining the momentum in the contest with five unanswered tallies in the first eight minutes to lead 9-6.
> Rutgers narrowed the Owls' lead to 9-8 but goals from Abaigeal Ryan and Wynston Archer stopped the Rutgers surge, putting Temple up 11-8 with 15 minutes left in the game.
> The Scarlet Knights countered with five unanswered goals re-taking the lead, 13-11 with 4:19 to play.
> Temple was unable to tally the equalizer in the closing minutes, as the Owls dropped their first game of the season.

Statistically Speaking
> Junior Jen Rodzewich and freshman Belle Mastropietro each scored twice in the game, while Mastropietro added five draw controls and four ground balls.
> Senior Maddie Gebert finished with a goal and an assist, while six other players got on the board for the Owls.
> Junior Courtney Taylor led Temple's defense with four caused turnovers with classmate Bridget Whitaker adding three.
> Rounding out the box score, senior Abby Overman added three ground balls, while senior Kara Nakrasius had three draw controls.
> Goalkeeper Maryn Lowell notched three saves, while Olivia Martin (two saves) and Eryn Beal (one save) also split minutes between the pipes.
