Women’s Basketball Hosts Memphis for Annual School Day Game

PHILADELPHIA — The Temple women's basketball team hosts Memphis at the Liacouras Center on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at noon. The game is Temple's annual "School Day" field trip for local students.

THE OWLS
> Temple enters Wednesday's game at 14-10 overall (6-5 AAC). The Owls are currently ranked sixth in the conference.  
> Junior Mia Davis leads Temple with 18.9 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. Her boards per night ranks 16th in the country and first in the American. 
> Davis totals 14 double-doubles on the season, totaling fourth-most in the nation. 
> On Feb. 12, Davis was named a top 10 finalist of the Cheryl Miller Award Watch List, an honor given to the nation's top small forward each year. 
> Redshirt sophomore Ashley Jones adds 16.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. 
> Marissa Mackins is the third Owl to average double-digit points with 13.8 per night. Mackins leads Temple and ranks second in the American with 68 three-pointers this season. 
> Graduate student Lena Niang is the second leading rebounder for Temple with 5.9 boards per game. Niang nets 7.3 points per game and is the second leading three-point shooter for the Owls. 
> Freshman Asonah Alexander is the American assists leader with 105 on the year, averaging 4.3 per game. Her assist/turnover ratio of 2.84 ranks first in the conference and seventh in the country. Alexander adds 5.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. 

LAST TIME OUT: Temple 76, Houston 75
> The Owls slipped past Houston for their sixth conference win of the season on Feb. 15 at McGonigle Hall.
> Houston took control of the first quarter, holding as much as a 16-point lead over Temple, but the Owls clawed their way back to outscore the Cougars in both the second and third quarters. 
> After trailing 38-33 at the half, Temple won the battle of the third quarter 26-18 as they took their first lead of the game. 
> Temple collected eight steals in the win, the most steals they've totaled against a conference opponent this season. 
> Houston held the edge in field goal percentage (47.5 to 46.4) and rebounds (34 to 33). 
> Davis shot 11-for-17 from the floor as she led all players in scoring with 27. She added a team-high seven rebounds, one steal and a block to her stat line. 
> Jones added 22 points and a game-high eight assists, along with a pair of steals. 
> Niang was the final Owl to score in double figures with her 11 tallies. She added five assists, two blocks, two assists and a steal. 
> Alexa Williamson and Mackins each added seven points to round out the box score. 

SCOUTING MEMPHIS
> The Tigers arrive on Broad Street with a record of 13-12 (4-7 AAC). 
> Memphis holds one of the higher field goal shooting percentages in the conference with their mark of 42.3. 
> The Tigers are led by Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu with 11.8 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. Fankam Mendjiadeu has collected 11 double-doubles this season to total the second-most double-doubles in the American. 
> Madison Griggs leads both Memphis and the American behind the three-point line with 70 buckets thus far this season. The rookie averages 10.0 points per outing. 
> Gazmyne Herndon is the Tigers' assist lead with 89 on the year, averaging 3.6 per game. 

LAST TIME OUT: ECU 61, Memphis 57
> The Tigers dropped a four-point heartbreaker to ECU on Feb. 15 in Memphis. 
> The Pirates forced Memphis to commit 26 turnovers, which translated into 20 points in ECU's favor.
> The Tigers were led by Alana Davis with 16 points while Fankam Medjiadeu recorded her 11th double-double of the year with 13 points and 11 rebounds. 
> Despite the loss, Memphis outshot ECU 46.7% to 39% from the floor and held the edge on the boards, 35-25.

TEMPLE VS. MEMPHIS
> The Owls lead 8-3 in the all-time series against the Tigers. 
> The two programs first met on Feb. 9, 2013 in McGonigle Hall where Temple emerged victorious with a 64-51 conference win. 

LAST TIME THEY MET: Memphis 59, Temple 58
> The sixth-seeded Temple fell to #11 Memphis, 59-58, in the first round of the American Athletic Conference Tournament on March 8, 2019 at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn.
> Temple saw a 19-point fourth quarter lead slip away, as Memphis shot 52.6% from the field and a massive 71.4% (5-7) from three in the final frame. 
> The Owls shot 38.5% from the field in the fourth, but was done in by seven turnovers in the final eight minutes, as Memphis' trap proved to be trouble for Temple.
> Temple jumped out to a 17-5 lead and led 28-17 at halftime.
> The Owls' extended the lead to 46-31 after three, before Memphis' fourth quarter magic took over.
> Shantay Taylor had a career night, recording her third career double-double, racking up 16 points and 14 rebounds. 
> Davis finished with 14 points and seven boards, while Alliya Butts notched 10 points and six assists. 
> Niang added eight points and Mackins had seven.
