Gymnastics Hosts Bowling Green and Penn for Alumni Night Friday

PHILADELPHIA—Temple gymnastics will return home to compete in McGonigle Hall for the first time in over a month, as the Cherry and White opens up its two-meet weekend on Friday, March 6 against Bowling Green and Penn for Alumni Night. The competition is set to begin at 7 p.m. and the first 30 fans in the door will receive a Temple gymnastics class of 2021 mini poster.

The Owls
> The Owls are led by head coach Josh Nilson, who is in his second season leading the Cherry and White.
> Last time out, Temple closed out its month-long road stretch at Maryland's Terrapin Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The Cherry and White had a standout vault rotation, as they scored a program record 49.15. The Owls took third with a 194.1, as Maryland placed first (196.975) and Yale took second (194.375), while William & Mary placed fourth (193.9) and Penn was fifth (193.275).
> The Owls had their best performance of the day on vault, as they reset the program record with a 49.15 on the event. Freshman Heidi Vanderboom posted a 9.7 to set the tone for the lineup and junior Tori Edwards continued the momentum with a season-high 9.775. Seniors Jaylene Everett and Jazmyn Estrella notched matching scores of 9.85 which are both season-highs and earned them each a share of third place. Freshman Madison Brooks posted a 9.8 for her strong vault and sophomore Ariana Castrence tied her career-best on the event with an outstanding 9.875 to earn second place.
> Temple leads the ECAC with an NQS of 194.155. Yale is its closest competition, as the Bulldogs own an NQS of 193.605. Several Owls are ranked in the top three in the ECAC. Castrence holds the top spot in the ECAC on vault, bars, floor and in the all-around. The sophomore is also third on beam. Garin ranks second on beam and junior Jordyn Oster is third on floor.
> Castrence was named the ECAC Gymnast of the Week for the third time this season following her standout performance at the Terrapin Invitational.
 
Scouting Bowling Green
> Bowling Green is led by head coach Kerrie Turner, who has spent 13 seasons leading the Falcons.
> Last time out, Bowling Green competed at Kent State's quad meet on Feb. 28, placing second behind the host team with a 193.275.
> The squad earned a 48.625 on vault, 47.575 on bars, 48.525 on beam and 48.55 on floor.
 
Scouting Penn
> The Quakers are led by head coach John Ceralde, who has been at the helm of the program for 13 seasons.
> Penn last competed on Sunday, March 1, as they competed at Maryland's Terrapin Invitational. The Quakers placed fifth out of five teams, scoring a 193.275.
> The team posted a 48.1 on vault, 48.775 on bars, 48.25 on beam and 48.15 on floor.
> The Quakers are ranked third in the ECAC, behind Temple and Yale, with an NQS of 193.055. The Owls are 2-0 against Penn this season.
