PHILADELPHIA – Temple University men's basketball redshirt sophomore Tai Strickland had successful surgery on his right shoulder on August 27. He is expected to make a full recovery with his timeline for return to physical team activities to be determined.
A 6-2, 180-pound guard out of St. Petersburg High in Tampa, Strickland sat out last season due to NCAA rules, but did play with the Owls in the Bahamas where he tied for team-high honors with 13 points in a win over an IBA Select team (8/5/19). At Wisconsin, he played sparingly in his one season with the Badgers (2018-190, averaging 1.8 points per game while playing just 50 minutes. His best game was a 14-point, six-assist effort against Savannah State on Dec. 13.
In high school, Strickland transferred to St. Petersburg for his senior year after starting for two seasons at Tampa Catholic. At St. Petersburg, he averaged 17.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game, helping the Green Devils to a record of 24-6. Strickland, who led his high school teams to three state semifinals, was named first-team All-Pinellas County and earned Team Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2017-18.
