Men’s Soccer Drops to Penn 2-1
10.19.21 | Men's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA- The Temple men's soccer team (2-8-2, 0-6-0 AAC) fell to the Penn Quakers (7-3-2, 1-1-1 IVY) 2-1 Tuesday night. Amir Cohen scored his first goal of the season to take an early lead.
How it Happened
> Cohen scored at the nine-minute mark. Jalen Campbell was on the right-wing of the field where he drove to the top-right corner of the box. Campbell looked to the middle of the field where he found Cohen at the top of the box with space. The midfielder made a single move to free himself and launched a perfect ball of the top right corner of the goalmouth to open the scoring.
> Penn scored just under three minutes later to tie the match ('12).
>Goalkeeper Goodwill Agbaadem made a strong stop in the 16th minute. Penn had a good run with an unmarked man coming up the backside of the play. The Quakers crossed a well-placed ball to find the unmarked man. Penn rifled off a shot, but Agbaadem was there with the quick reaction to deny the goal and preserve the tie.
> The Owls had a flurry of shots near the 30th minute, but none were able to find their mark.
> Agbaadem made another outstanding play as the half wound down. A Penn forward worked his way behind the Temple backline for a one-on-one with the keeper. The senior made a fantastic read, first holding his ground then accelerating towards the ball to cut down the angle and force the Penn player to shoot early and allowing Agbaadem to make the stop. The sides entered the half 1-1.
> Gyuwon Chong found space on the left side of the box in the 52nd minute and fired off a shot on target, but it was turned away via a diving stop by the Penn keeper.
> Only two minutes later Aly Camara pounded a near-perfect shot that seemed destined for the back of the net. The forward fired from the top of the box to the top-right corner of the goal, but the keeper made a leaping save and deflected the ball off his fingertips.
> Penn scored in the 79th minute. Despite a late rally by the Owls, they could not get another shot on frame. Penn won by a final tally of 2-1.
Game Notes
> Cohen built on his momentum after earning an assist Saturday. The sophomore's goal is his first of the season.

From the Coach
> "We've got to recover, we have to get ready for UCF, and we have to compete. We have not only execute our game plan, but we have to show the grit that's required to make plays that matter. I'm confident we'll have a plan that'll work." -- head coach Brian Rowland.
