Women's Basketball Drops Road Contest to FGCU, 70-53

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Temple women's basketball team dropped its first game of the season on Friday night, falling to FGCU, 70-53. After trailing by six points going into halftime, an 8-2 run for the Owls cut the deficit to two points early in the third quarter. From there, however, the Eagles took control of the game, going on an 18-8 run to end the third quarter and put the game out of reach.

Statistical Leaders
> Senior Alexa Williamson led the Owls with 23 points, 17 of those coming in the first half. She added 12 rebounds to give her a double-double.
> Mia Davis followed closely behind her with 16 points of her own.
> Jasha Clinton led the team with 10 assists.

First Quarter: Temple 8, FGCU 16
> Davis, Jiselle Thomas, and Williamson all scored in the opening five minutes, but the Owls found themselves in a 9-6 hole going into the first media timeout.
> A 5-0 run for the Eagles put Temple in an eight-point deficit going into the second period.

Second Quarter: Temple 27, FGCU 33
> Six points for Williamson in the opening four minutes coupled with a jump shot from Emani Mayo closed the gap for the Owls.
> The Owls continued to draw closer midway through the second quarter as Williamson scored nine of the Owls' next eleven points to bring Temple within two.
> In the final minutes of the half, however, FGCU answered back with a 4-0 run to take a six-point lead heading into the half.
> Williamson closed the first half with 17 points.

Third Quarter: Temple 43, FGCU 55
> Two quick baskets from Davis in addition to another two-pointer by Williamson closed the gap to two with seven minutes remaining in the quarter.
> Following two free throws by Davis a few minutes later, an 8-0 run by the Eagles stretched FGCU's lead and forced a Temple timeout.
> Coming out of the timeout, FGCU extended its lead to 12 heading into the fourth quarter.

Fourth Quarter: Temple 53, FGCU 70
> A 4-0 run to open the quarter for the Owls brought the contest within single-digits, but the run was quickly canceled out by four-straight points for the Eagles going into the media timeout.
> Following the timeout, FGCU stretched its lead thanks to seven consecutive points.

> Temple returns home for a Wednesday night clash against St. John's on Nov. 17 for its first out of three straight home contests. The game will air on ESPN+.
