Women's Basketball Completes Comeback, Defeats Georgetown 49-47

WASHINGTON – The Temple women's basketball team (4-3, 0-0) defeated the Georgetown Hoyas (3-3, 0-0) in a tight contest on Tuesday night. Down by 11 points entering the fourth quarter, the Owls drained four threes in the final period to spark the comeback to win the game.

Statistical Leaders
> Forward Mia Davis led the Owls with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
> Freshman Aniya Gourdine chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds.
> Sophomore Caranda Perea scored nine fourth-quarter points, draining three three-pointers in the process.

First Quarter: Temple 6, Georgetown 12
> Georgetown started the game on an 8-2 run thanks to six straight points from Kelsey Ransom to put the Owls in an early hole.
> The Owls responded with four points late in the quarter to trim the Hoyas' lead.

Second Quarter: Temple 17, Georgetown 24
> A 7-3 Georgetown run in the opening minutes of the period stretched the lead back to nine.
> Three pointers from Jasha Clinton and Gourdine as well as five early points from Davis kept the Owls within reach as the second quarter came to a close.
> Davis finished with 10 points in the first half.

Third Quarter: Temple 27, Georgetown 38
> The defensive battle continued in the second half as both teams combined for five total points in the first three minutes of the third quarter.
> The Hoya capitalized on a 12-5 run midway through the third quarter to take a double-digit lead heading into the final period.

Fourth Quarter: Temple 49, Georgetown 47
> Back-to-back three pointers by Perea trimmed the Georgetown lead and brought the Owls back within 10 points.
> Davis drilled a baseline jumper midway through the fourth quarter to cap an 11-4 run and force a GU timeout.
> An 8-3 run by the Owls, bookended by three pointers from Perea and Emani Mayo trimmed the Georgetown lead to one. A driving layup by Gourdine put the Owls in front for their first lead of the contest.
> From there, an Alexa Williamson free throw and a few defensive stops closed out the win for the Owls.
