Temple to Institute Vaccine Mandate at Basketball Games Starting Jan. 3

12.22.21 | Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA – In compliance with the city of Philadelphia, Temple University will require proof of vaccination for attendance at its men's and women's basketball home games starting Monday, January 3.  This follows the city of Philadelphia mandate that all establishments that sell food or drink for consumption onsite (including sports venues) will require everyone who enters show proof that they have completed their COVID vaccinations.

For the first two weeks of this mandate, proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 24 hours of entry will be accepted for people who are not fully vaccinated. Only PCR or antigen tests will be accepted.  Home tests will not be accepted.  Please note, this negative COVID-19 test exception will end, and everyone will need to be fully vaccinated, on January 17, 2022.  After January 17, negative tests will no longer be allowed to be used to get into sports venues.

People with proof of valid religious or medical exemptions and children under five years and three months are exempt from the mandate.

Please note the following:

> Completed vaccinations means that you have received two doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or a single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

> Children ages 5 years and 3 months through 11 will be required to have one dose of the COVID vaccine by January 3 and to complete their vaccine series by February 3.

This vaccine mandate will affect the remainder of Temple Men's Basketball games at the Liacouras Center in the following ways:

> Houston (January 2 at 5 p.m.) – Vaccination cards do not need to be shown upon entry.

> ECU (January 8 at 2 p.m.) - Patrons will need to show their COVID vaccination card (either physical card or picture on their phone) or proof of a negative test within 24 hours of entry to attend the game at the Liacouras Center.

> Wichita State (January 19 at 7 p.m.) and remaining games after that date - Patrons can only show their COVID vaccination card (either physical card or picture on their phone) to enter the venue.  Proof of a negative test will NOT be accepted.

Please note that due to checking vaccination cards, entry to the Liacouras Center may be slightly delayed.  Please plan accordingly and thank you in advance for your patience.

This vaccine mandate will affect the remainder of Temple Women's Basketball games at McGonigle Hall in the following ways:

• La Salle (December 29 at 7 p.m.) – Vaccination cards do not need to be shown upon entry.

• SMU (January 5 at 7 p.m.) – Patrons will need to show their COVID vaccination card (either physical card or picture on their phone) or proof of a negative test within 24 hours of entry to attend the game at the McGonigle Hall.

• Houston (January 15 at Noon) - Patrons will need to show their COVID vaccination card (either physical card or picture on their phone) or proof of a negative test within 24 hours of entry to attend the game at the McGonigle Hall.

• Cincinnati (January 26 at 7 p.m.) and remaining games after that date - Patrons can only show their COVID vaccination card (either physical card or picture on their phone) to enter the venue.  Proof of a negative test will NOT be accepted.

If you or members of your party are unvaccinated and/or cannot meet the requirements of the vaccine mandate to gain entry, here are your options if you have tickets for future games after January 3:

>  Receive a full credit on your account to be used towards future Temple Men's and Women's Basketball tickets for games during the 2021-22 or 2022-23 seasons.  Credit will be based on tickets already purchased for games affected by this mandate.

> Donate/transfer the money already paid towards tickets already purchased to the Temple Owl Club, which provides the resources needed to enrich the lives of our student-athletes as they strive to achieve excellence in the classroom and at the highest level of competition.  Your donation may be tax-deductible.  Please consult your tax professional.

> Receive a full refund of money paid towards tickets already purchased for games affected by this mandate.  You must send a written request to tixsales@temple.edu for this option.
