Ford Earns CSC Academic All-District Recognition

GREENWOOD, Ind. – College Sports Communicators announced Tuesday afternoon that Temple University men's basketball senior guard Derrian Ford was named to the Academic All-District Team. The award recognizes top student-athletes for their work on the court and in the classroom.
Ford, a continuing studies major, holds a 3.8 cumulative grade point average. To be eligible for Academic All-District, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or above. The student-athlete also must have played in 90 percent of team games or started 67 percent of them.
On the court, the transfer from Arkansas State shot 42.7 percent from the field, ranking seventh in the conference. He also ranked seventh in field goals made (172) and ninth in field goal attempts (403). In terms of durability, Ford ranked fourth in minutes per game (35:39), which ranked 42nd nationally.
Ford ranked fifth in the American Conference in total points (561) and fourth in scoring at 18.1 points per game, which ranked 89th nationally. He also was one of the league's most reliable players at the free throw line, ranking fourth in free throws made (167) and fifth in attempts (196), with both totals among the top 75 nationally. He ranked fourth in the conference in free throw percentage (.852).
He scored in double figures in 30 of 31 games, including 14 games with at least 20 points. In addition to leading the Owls in scoring, Ford ranked second on the team in rebounding at 4.3 rebounds per game.
The Magnolia, Ark., native earned American Conference Third Team, NABC All-District Second Team and now College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team honors this postseason.
Academic All-District honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Student-athletes selected as CSC Academic All-America finalists are denoted with an asterisk and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced April 14 for men and April 15 for women.
