Women's Track and Field Starts Season Strong

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Temple women's track and field team started the season off on a positive note this weekend, recording a number of first-place finishes in their first meet of the 2021-22 campaign at Lehigh.

Friday Meet Highlights
> Sophia Gulotti raced to a time of 9.17 in the 60m hurdles to grab first place.
> Nicole Castor place second in both the shot put and high jump events.
> Gulotti finished second in the 800m, running to a time of 2:29.48.
> Overall, Gulotti and Castor finished second and fourth in the pentathlon.

Saturday Meet Highlights
> Tannekee Strachan placed first in the long jump and triple jump events with a mark of 5.57m and 11.71m, respectively.
> Amira Green placed second in the high jump with a mark of 1.65m.
> Chelby Elam and Christal Pommells finished first and third in the 60m event, racing to times of 7.67 and 7.82, respectively.
> Marissa White and Mary Olayinka Ilelaboye raced to first and second place finishes in the 400m event, clocking times of 57.62 and 58.18, respectively.
> In the 200m event, four Owls made up the top five spots. Pommells took the top spot on the podium with a time of 25.54 while Ilelaboye, Elam, and Jewel Ofotan took the 3-5 positions.

"Overall, I am very pleased with the performance this weekend. I thought Sophia and Nicole set the tone on Friday for the rest of the squad on Saturday," Head Coach Elvis Forde said. "The team broke a lot of personal-bests and we had a few first-place finishes throughout the weekend that will set us up well as the season plays out."
