Track & Field Finishes Fourth at #HTownSpeedCity Series

HOUSTON – The Temple track and field team placed fourth at the #HTownSpeedCity Series III meet on Saturday at Yeomen Fieldhouse in Houston, Texas as six Owls earned top-three finishes.

Meet Highlights
> Three Owls competed in the 200m dash, with Mallorie Smith leading the way in 11th place. Mary Olayinka Ilelaboye followed in 12th and Chidumga Nkulume finished in 18th. 
> In the 200m, junior Marissa White clocked in at 56.14 to earn sixth place in the event. 
> Freshman Léa Kerbiriou was the lone Owl to finish first at today's meet. The rookie crossed the finish line at 2:08.99 in the 800m, three seconds faster than her time from two weeks prior. 
> Following Kerbiriou closely was graduate student Alanna Lally, who clocked in at 2:09.24 for second place. 
> Competing in the 800m for the first time was Nicole Castor, who placed 10th with her time of 2:29.57.
> Senior Helene Gottlieb earned a third-place mark in the mile after crossing the finish line at 4:54.56. 
> Michelle Joyce led the way in the 3000m with her second-place finish, followed by Laura Nicholson in third. 
> Freshman Emily Schuler earned a sixth-place spot in the 3000m as she raced in her first indoor track event of her collegiate career. 
> Rounding out the Cherry and White in the 3000m was Cat Shontz in ninth and Emma Seifried in 11th. 
> Aisha Brown earned a second-place finish in the high jump with her mark of 1.68m. 
> In the triple jump, Tannekee Strachan landed at 11.82m to finish sixth in the event. 

From the Coach
> "We had a lot of improvements this meet," commented head coach Elvis Forde. "Léa continues to shine with her first-place performance in the 800m, coming off of last weekend's cross country conference championships. Also coming off the conference championships was Michelle Joyce and Laura Nicholson who both ran a great 3000m race."
> "We were much better than we were the last time we were in Houston, which is great as we head into the outdoor season."

#HTownSpeedCity Series
> In the third and final meet of a three-meet series, Cincinnati walked away with the victory as they collected 136.50 points. 
> UCF finished second with 117 points, followed by Houston (86.50), Temple (55.50), SMU (41), Tulane (39.50), USF (37.50), Stephen F. Austin (31.50) and Sam Houston (16).
