Cummins Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week; Batze, Novakova Named to Honor Roll
2.15.21 | Field Hockey
NEW YORK – Temple field hockey midfielder/forward Kaitlyn Cummins earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors, as announced by the league Monday afternoon. Senior Dani Batze and graduate student Veronika Novakova were also tabbed, being named to the Weekly Honor Roll.
Cummins earned her first career start in her collegiate debut against Hofstra. She recorded one shot, putting it on target. It was the Laurel Springs, N.J. native who earned the penalty corner that set up the Owls' game-winning goal.
Novakova scored the game-winner over the Pride, setting up the penalty corner and scoring off the deflection from Batze. Both players fired one shot in the season opener, and Batze led a defensive unit that held Hofstra to a single shot.
The Owls will hit the road to open BIG EAST play, facing Old Dominion on Feb. 19 and 20.
