MECHANICSVILLE, Va. — The Temple men's cross country team finished fifth out of a field of 10 teams at the Spider/Patriot Cross Country Classic at Pole Green Park Saturday afternoon.
About the Spider/Patriot Cross Country Classic
> The Owls finished fifth out of 10 teams as they recorded 153 points in the five mile race.
> Iona earned first place with 24 points, followed by UConn (57), UMass Lowell (73) and George Mason (155).
Race Notes
> Senior Kristian Jense was the first in the Cherry and White to cross the finish line at 25:00.3 for an 18th-place finish.
> Junior Ethan Koza was the second Owl to finish with his time of 25:20.9 for the 27th spot.
> Sean Egan and Tyler Fauvelle finished back-to-back at 39 and 40, respectively, followed by Jimmy Koel (44), Erik Kain (45), Christian Fitch (47).
From the Coach
> "I think overall we are a bit disappointed with how we did," commented assistant cross country coach Cavender Salvadori. "We came into the race wanting to see how we stack up and continue some momentum for our next meet at FSU."
> "I think Ty Fauvelle and Sean Egan worked well together and progressed through the field, as did Ethan Koza and Jimmy Koel, but going into the race we needed everyone to race that way."
> "I think we are a team that should've been able to mix it up with UConn, Iona and UMass Lowell, and as a team that is looking to be nationally relevant, those were the teams we needed to compete against."
> "Four sure a learning experience on what truly competing needs to look like and I think with the young group we have, the more we have these teachable moments, the better we set ourselves up to really race to our potential and make an impact on the national stage."
