Batze Named to Preseason All-BIG EAST Team
2.4.21 | Field Hockey
NEW YORK - Temple field hockey captain Dani Batze has been named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team, as announced by league Thursday afternoon.
Batze had an impressive season on the pitch in 2019, leading the team in goals (6), shots (31), shots on goal (19), game-winning goals (4), and defensive saves (5). She ended the season eighth in the nation for defensive saves, and her 16 career defense saves tied for fourth in the nation among active players.
The Eden, Md. native scored the game-winner over Georgetown to snap the team's 18-game BIG EAST losing streak, and the game-winner in the 3-0 shutout of Villanova in the Owls' second league win of the season.
The Owls were picked to finish fifth in the league, one spot higher than last season's projected finish. The top four teams will qualify for the BIG East Tournament, hosted by Villanova on April 22-24.
"We are thrilled that the BIG EAST has worked diligently to put together a schedule for our field hockey programs this spring," head coach Susan Ciufo said. "Our student-athletes have worked tirelessly over the past 15 months since our last game. We are more than ready to have outside competition and continue to develop ourselves as a threatening team within the BIG EAST. We are excited about our transition thus far and look forward to being able to compete in 2021."
