3.30.21 | Men's Golf

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Senior Dawson Anders and junior Conor McGrath tied for the best round of the day, shooting three-under 67s to lead Temple Golf to a sixth-place finish at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate Tuesday.  As a team, the Owls improved nine strokes from their best round on Monday, carding a four-over 284 in moving up one spot in the 16-team field.

Recapping the Day
> Anders had six birdies on the day, including three straight on holes six, seven and eight, to completed his brilliant afternoon on the course.  It was his best round since 2018 when he set a Temple freshman record with a 65 at the Cleveland Palmetto Golf Intercollegiate.  He finished with a two-over 212 to tie for third in the 89-player field.
> It was a career best round for McGrath, who was coming off a tough first day. He also made six birdies during his round and, like Anders, ran off three straight from holes 16-18.  He moved up from 73rd place to a tie for 45th with a 226.
> Junior Buddy Hansen had the third best round for the Owls, shooting a 74, and tied McGrath for 45th.
> Senior Peter Bradbeer struggled with two par three holes and posted a seven-over 77.   He was second overall for Temple and tied for 29th with a 12-over 222.
> Sophomore Graham Chase rounded out the Temple squad, carding a 79 to tie for 54th overall with a 228.
The Field
> VCU won the tournament with an 859, besting second place Old Dominion (863) by four strokes.
> Old Dominion's Jakob Henriksson (-5) won the tournament by six strokes and his three-under 67 matched Anders and McGrath for the best final round.

Statistically Speaking
> Temple had the most birdies (43) over the 54-hole tournament with Anders tying for the third most with 12.
> Anders also had a 2.58 average on par-3 holes, the best in the field.
> Bradbeer was the team's top golfer on par 4s (4.06, t-4th) and par 5s (4.67, t-3rd).

Quotable
"Dawson and Conor played great and as a team we tied with VCU, who won the tournament, for the lowest score of the day.  After the round I told our guys to reflect back over last three rounds and think about the three-to-five mistakes they each made and if corrected them we win this tournament." - Head coach Brian Quinn
