Gymnastics Posts Season High 195.4 on Senior Day

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple gymnastics team sent its six seniors out in style, as the Owls recorded a season-high 195.400 to top visiting LIU (191.050) in dual meet action at McGonigle Hall. After the meet, the Owls celebrated its class of 2021, made up of student assistants Erica Fuchs and Monica Servidio, and gymnasts Tori Edwards, Delaney Garin, Faith Leary, and Jordyn Oster.

How it Happened
> Temple opened with a strong vault rotation (48.9) that was just .05 off the Owls' season best.
> A 48.225 followed for Temple on bars, but the Owls held a comfortable lead.
> Temple ended the meet with two great rotations to pick up a season best 195.400, the fourth best score in program history.
> The Owls went 49.000 on beam, only the sixth time in program history the team has hit that mark.
> On floor, it was another spectacular turn for Temple, as the team put up a 49.275, just .025 off of the program record.
> Temple swept all five event titles, led by junior Ariana Castrence who picked up three. She won the all-around with a 39.325, which would have been a program record had she not gone 39.35 on Friday. She added a 9.850 to win vault and a 9.875 to tie for the win on floor.
> Other event winners for the Owls were freshmen Brooke Donabedian (BB - 9.850) and Cyrena Whalen (UB - 9.850), and junior Julianna Roland and Edwards, who tied Castrence for the floor title with 9.875's.

Vault
> Temple's 48.9 on vault to start the day is the seventh best score in program history.
> Castrence led the way with a 9.850 on her full, while Roland took second with a 9.825.
> Freshman Renee Schugman and senior Faith Leary tied for fourth with a 9.750, while Edwards tallied a 9.725.
> Sophomore Madison Brooks scored a 9.700 to round out the vault rotation.

Bars
> Temple had to count a miscue on bars, but finished with a 48.225.
> Whalen won her second bars title of the season with a beautiful 9.850 that got a 9.900 from one judge.
> Castrence tallied a 9.800, while Edwards (9.675) and Oster (9.650) also scored well.

Beam
> Temple notched a 49.00 on beam in the third rotation.
> Temple's freshmen beamers shined, as Donabedian won the event with a 9.850 and Schugman finished second with a 9.825.
> Castrence recorded a 9.800 in the fifth spot, while Whalen anchored the lineup with a 9.775 in her first competition beam routine of the season.
> Roland (9.750) and Oster (9.700) wrapped up the top scores in the rotation.

Floor
> Temple's spectacular floor rotation continued, as the Owls closed the meet with a 49.275 on the event, just .025 from the best score in program history.
> It was a three-way tie at the top for Temple, as Edwards, Roland, and Castrence each picked up 9.875's.
> Schugman and Donabedian tallied 9.825's and Leary finished with a 9.800 to wrap up the meet.

> Temple has another two-meet weekend, both at Towson. The Owls will compete in a tri-meet at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, and a quad meet at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.
