5.29.21 | Women's Track and Field
Jacksonville, Fla. – Graduate student Emma Gee broke her previous school record in the 3000m steeplechase Saturday afternoon at the NCAA East Preliminary to secure a spot at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Meet Notes
> Gee recorded a school record and a personal-best 9:58.12 in the 3000m steeplechase to finish third in her heat and eighth overall. She became the first Owl to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships since Blanca Fernandez competed in the 5000m in 2017.
> In the high jump, Aisha Brown recorded a 1.72m to tie for 30th in the event.Â
> Alanna Lally ran a 2:05.81 in the 800m, just one second shy of her school-record mark, but fell six spots behind a qualifying position.
> Grace Moore was third early in her heat of the 5000m, but unfortunately did not finish the race.Â
From the Coach
> "This is a very special weekend in regards to the young ladies that make it here," commented head coach Elvis Forde. "It takes a very special performance to get to this meet because you are competing against some very high-level competition."Â
> "Praises have to go to Emma Gee for the one year she has spent with us and the fantastic performance she put on to advance to the national championship."
> "Alanna had set the school record earlier this year but unfortunately, she couldn't muster up the performance that was required to advance to the national championship. With that being said, the individuals that qualified for the national meet raced one of the fastest races so she has absolutely nothing to be disappointed about."
> "It required a big effort for Aisha to get here. She had some good attempts at 1.77m but couldn't get that clearance that she needed to advance on to the next level. But congratulations to her because she has had a wonderful career at Temple."Â
> "I feel very sad for Grace. I wanted to say thanks to her for the four year that she has given us. Despite the disappointments she has had, she has been diligent and worked hard to get to this level. It was a monstrous race earlier in the year that allowed her to qualify as she set the new school record in the 5000m. Grace has always dedicated herself to Temple, we thank her for all she has done for our program."
