ORLANDO, Fla.– The Temple men's soccer team (1-3-2, 0-2-0 AAC) was downed by the UCF Knights (4-3-0, 2-0-0 AAC) 4-1 Friday night in the Owls' first American Athletic Conference road game of the year. Mike Eijgendaal found the back of the net for his second goal in four matches.
How it Happened
> Temple came out with blazing speed. The Owls controlled the ball early and fired the first two shots of the match, including a shot on target by Gyuwon Chong that was saved by the Knight's keeper.
> UCF scored the first goal of the match to go up 1-0.
> The Owls continued pushing hard. Forward Alex Marin powered a dart to the bottom left corner of the goal that was turned away by a diving save from UCF.
> Temple tied the match up in the 38th minute. Defender Mickael Borger struck the ball from near midfield to find the feet of Chaim Roserie. Roserie flicked the ball into the box where it was perfectly placed for a driving Eijgendaal. The 2020-21 second-team All-Conference forward found an opening on the right side of the goal and tapped the ball home for his second goal of the season.
> Neither side had another shot for the remainder of the half. The teams entered halftime knotted at one.
> UCF scored early in the second to go up 2-1.
> In the 69th minute, forward Gino Vivi had what looked to be a surefire goal that was turned away by Liam Cummings. The Temple keeper made a spectacular diving stop on a drive from the top of the box to keep the match within one.
> The Knights added two more in the final 15 minutes to salt the match away. UCF won by a final score of 4-1.
Game Notes
> Eijgendaal picked up his third point in four matches. He is now tied with Nigel Griffith for the team lead in goals (2).
> Roserie's assist is his first point in Cherry and White.
> Four yellow cards were issued in this match. Two on UCF and two on Temple.
From the Coach
> "This is a difficult one for us today because I thought we played quite well. We were in the game for a long period of time and they hurt us a couple times when we got disconnected. We played through some injuries which resulted in some difficult decisions we had to make, but when your chasing the game that's never a good thing against them. We'll see them at home and hopefully we're in a better place to compete with them in terms of health." -- head coach Brian Rowland.
