Jourdain’s Career High Leads Men’s Basketball Past Tulsa, 69-64

TULSA, Okla. – Nick Jourdain gave his mother her birthday wish as he scored a career-high 23 points to lead Temple to a 69-64 win over Tulsa at the Reynolds Center Wednesday night. It marked the first win in Tulsa for the Owls, who won their third straight and improved to 10-6 overall (3-2 AAC). Tulsa falls to 6-9 (0-3 AAC).
Jourdain, who told reporters after the game that a career-high was what his mother asked for as a gift, made nine-of-17 from the field, grabbed five rebounds, and made three blocks. It was his second straight career-high as he tallied 16 points against ECU on Saturday.
Jahlil White added 11 points and a career-high 10 rebounds for his first double-double while Damian Dunn (17 points) and Zach Hicks (11 points) also scored in double figures.
Recapping the Game
First Half
> The Owls jumped out to an early six-point lead, 14-8, following two baskets by Dunn.
> Coming off a career-high 16 points against ECU, Jourdain remained hot, scoring 11 of the Owls' first 25 points.
> Temple would open up a double-digit lead following three-pointers by Hicks and White, taking a 31-20 advantage with just under four minutes to play in the half.
> Tulsa then went on an 8-0 run to close out the half with Ladavius Draine hitting his third three-pointer in the stretch to make it 31-28 at the break.
Second Half
> With Temple leading 39-34 following a Jourdain three-point play, Tulsa ran off nine straight points to take a four-point lead (43-39) with 14:09 to play.
> Tulsa would extend its margin to five, 47-42, before Temple answered with 13 straight points, five by Hicks, to take a 55-47 lead with 7:12 on the clock.
> The Golden Hurricane then cut the margin to three, 55-52, but a Jeremiah Williams three pushed the lead back to six, 58-52.
> The Owls were able to keep the Hurricane at bay, until the final minute. Leading by four (65-61) following a White free throw, Ray Idowu made a layup with 21.5 seconds left. Dunn was then called for an offensive foul on the inbound play. Jeriah Horne missed a layup and Jourdain converted two free throws to give Temple a two-possession lead, 67-63.
> Horne made one of two free throws with White hitting two for the Owls on the other end to seal the win.
Statistically Speaking
> Jake Forrester returned to action for the first time since the Delaware State game, coming off the bench for 10 minutes to pick up a pair of rebounds.
> Temple had a season-high 11 steals, with Dunn and Williams each picking up three, and a season-high free throw percentage (.895).
