Men’s Tennis Travels to VCU for Season Opener

PHILADELPHIA - Temple men's tennis will make their 2022 debut on Friday, Jan. 21 as they take on VCU on the road at 10 a.m.

The Owls

Last year, the Owls posted an 11-5 record, including a perfect 3-0 home record and five sweeps.
Despite their early success, the Owls pursuit of post season play was cut short due to COVID-19 protocols, causing them to miss the AAC tournament.
The Cherry and White bounced back into action this fall, finding success in the ITA Regional and Super Regional tournaments. The doubles pair of Thibault Frumholz and Leo Raquin along with Louis Gorregues and Marin Delmas all punched their ticket to Super Regionals after playing their way to the doubles semifinal to qualify.
The most notable performance of the fall came from Delmas and Gorregues who advanced to the ITA Super Regional semifinal, falling just short of victory in a tie-break to nationally recognized UVA.

Scouting VCU

Last year, the Rams posted a 17-5 record, going 3-0 in conference play and clinching their fourth straight Atlantic 10 Title.
VCU advanced to the first round of the NCAA tournament where they faced No. 35 Ohio State, falling 4-1.
On an individual level, the Rams named three student-athletes to the ITA National Rankings. Inigo Torre Martin clocked in at the No. 98 singles spot while Charles Bertimon and Maxence Bertimon are No. 59 in doubles play.
This fall, C. Bertimon led the way for the Rams, finishing as a semi-finalist in the ITA Super Regionals tournament in the singles main draw.

This match serves as the season opener for both teams. The Owls are 3-10 all time against the Rams with their last meeting coming in 2019 where the Owls fell, 4-1.
