Gymnastics Scores Season-High 195.825 at UNH Tri-Meet

Season-high score marks highest in school history in the month of January
DURHAM, N.H – On Sunday afternoon, the Temple Owls women's gymnastics team added a win against Penn at the UNH Tri-Meet when they scored a season-high 195.825 against the Quakers' 194.875 but fell to the host team New Hampshire Wildcats 195.825-196.450.
"The team fought hard tonight! They got a little tight on bars but settled in for the remainder of the meet. There were many highlights, including Hannah Stallings winning her third all-around title. Also, Mackenzie Aresta earned a career-high on the vault with a 9.8 and Hannah and Julianna Roland went back to back 9.9's on the vault!" said head coach Josh Nilson. He went on to say, "With three events earning over a 49.000 early on in the season is an excellent indicator of the strength of this team!"
MEET NOTES
> The 195.825 team score tops the 2020 season-opening score 195.575 against Illinois, marking the highest team score in program history for the month of January.
> Three of the four rotations, including vault, beam, and floor, saw the Cherry and White earn their highest team scores of the season.
> It was the third straight meet that freshman Hannah Stallings picked up the all-around victory. The Raleigh, N.C. native earned a career-high in the all-around with a 39.275.
> The Owls combined for 10 9.8's or better in the meet, including their first 9.9's of the season from Julianna Roland and Hannah Stallings.
Beam
> TU started on the beam and scored a season-high 49.050.
> Summer Ruskey, Julianna Roland, and Ariana Castrence made their season debut on the beam. The three gymnasts scored a 9.7 or better, including a pair of 9.875 scores from Roland and Castrence, the highest marks this season for Temple.
> Hannah Stallings also added her second 9.8 or better this year with a personal-best 9.850.
Bars
> Temple had its lowest outing of the season on the bars when it scored a 48.575 during the third rotation.
> Four of the six gymnasts scored 9.7 or better during the rotation.
> Sophomore Cyrena Whalen had a team-high of 9.750, matching her season-high this season.
> Hannah Stallings improved her personal record during the rotation with a 9.725
> Senior Caitlin Gray also improved her season-high score to 9.7.
Floor
> The Owls scored the highest mark on the floor of the three teams with a 49.150 compared to New Hampshire's 49.100 and Penn's 48.750.
> Five of the six gymnasts scored a 9.7 or better, including four with a 9.8 or better.
> Veterans Faith Leary and Tori Edwards and sophomore Brooke Donabedian led the Owls with a season-high 9.875, tying them for third overall during the meet and giving them the highest marks for Temple this season.
Vault
> TU scored the highest mark on the floor of the three teams with a 49.050 compared to the Wildcats' 48.950 and the Quakers' 48.900.
> Roland and Hannah Stallings added their first event title of the season on the vault when both Owls scored a 9.9 in the final rotation.
> Sophomore Mackenzie Aresta scored a career-high 9.8 in her season debut on Sunday.
> Sarah Stallings and Castrence added scores of 9.7 or better.
Temple returns to the gym on Jan. 30 at 4 p.m. ET when they visit LIU for a dual against the Sharks.
