Women’s Basketball Heads to Queens to Battle St. John’s

PHILADELPHIA – Following an impressive showing in the home opener against Georgetown, the Temple women's basketball team (1-1, 0-0 AAC) will head up I-95 to battle the St. John's Red Storm (2-0, 0-0 BIG EAST). This will the second of three straight BIG EAST matchups for the Owls. The game will stream on FloSports.

LAST TIME OUT: Georgetown 61 @ Temple 78
> The Owls demolished the Georgetown Hoyas 78-61 in TU's home opener.

> The Cherry & White led 33-29 at the half, before routing the Hoyas in the second segment of the contest.

> The 78 points the Owls put up is the most since racking up 89 against Memphis on 3/2/21.

THE OWLS
> Tiarra East has impressed so far in 2022-23. The Louisville, Ky. native has scored in double figures (11 and 14) in both of the Owls' games and had also led the team in rebounds in each game (11 and 7). East is averaging 12.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest. She put up her first career double-double in the season opener against No. 24 Princeton. She earned her onto the AAC and Big 5 Weekly Honor Roll yesterday.
> Guard Jasha Clinton has scored in double-figures in both contests thus far. She dished out six assists against Georgetown and leads the team in steals on the season with 5.
> Two-time All-CAA selection Aleah Nelson put on a show against the Hoyas. She led all scorers with 19 points while also contributing six assists and five boards.

SCOUTING ST. JOHN'S
> St. John's finished last season with a 12-19 record and a 7-12 mark in the BIG EAST. The Red Storm struggled to early in conference play, losing nine of their first ten games.
> The team has been impressive two games into 2022-23. They blew out Monmouth 78-39 and drubbed St. Francis (Brooklyn) 73-51 to open the season. The Reds Storm open the season with four straight home contests.
> Guard Kadaja Bailey headlines St. John's. The redshirt senior is in the final season of an impressive career with the Red Storm. This year, she leads the team with 19.5 points in addition to 5.5 rebounds per game. She was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll yesterday.
> Joe Tartamella is in his 11th season as head coach of the Red Storm. During his time in Queens, St. John's has earned a 184-134 record.

 SERIES HISTORY
> Temple and St. John's met in Philadelphia last season. Temple led for nearly the entire game, but a strong fourth quarter featuring a 10-0 run for the Red Storm gave St. John's the 76-67 win.
> The two sides have met 12 times. Temple has a record of 5-7 against St. John's. The Red Storm has won the last two games.
