PHILADELPHIA - After two successful preseason meets, the No. 11 Temple fencing team will open dual play at the Elite Invitational hosted by No. 8 Penn on Nov. 19.

The Owls had solid performances in both individual meets, with three podium finishes and eight top-8 finishes. Margherita Calderaro (epee) took silver at the Temple Open, her highest career finish at the event, while sophomore Eva Ventura (sabre) and freshman Anne-Mai Melles (epee) both tied for third in their respective weapons.

Epeeist Naomi Ross earned a sixth place finish at the Temple Open while folilists Elizabeth Novoseltseva (6th) and Anna Novoseltseva (8th) round out the event's top-8 finishers. Freshman Renee Oymann also saw a preseason top-8 finish, placing seventh at the Garret Open and improving on her Temple Open finish by more than 30 spots. Anna Novoseltseva earned another eighth place finish at Penn State.

Saberist Zoe Turner re-entered competition after a season-ending injury last season, placing 17th and 10th in the Temple Open and Garret Open, respectively. Senior Naomi Ross was two top-15 performances, finishing ninth and 10th, while Anastasia Yankovskiy earned 10th and 13 place finishes.

The Cherry and White will open the day at TSE Center in Hutchinson Gym against UCSD at 8 a.m., followed by Notre Dame, Air Force, Northwestern, LIU, and Cornell.
