Davis Eyes All-Time Scoring Record as Temple Hosts Wichita State on Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA - The Owls return to McGonigle Hall to start the month of February for a three-game home stretch. The first of those games comes against the Wichita State Shockers on Feb. 2 at 7:00pm. The game is scheduled to air on ESPN+.
After a 20-point outing in the last game against the UCF Knights, forward Mia Davis is five points away from becoming Temple women's basketball's all-time leading scorer, passing Marilyn Stephens who set the record back in 1984 with 2,194 career points.
Temple Athletics will be celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day throughout the event.
LAST GAME
> The Temple women's basketball team dropped its second consecutive conference game against the UCF Knights on Monday afternoon, 64-55.Â
> Up by two points midway through the fourth quarter, the Knights went on a 15-2 run to go up by double-digits with a few minutes and coasted the rest of the way for the victory.
> Mia Davis: team-high 20 points and six rebounds
> Alexa Williamson: 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds
> Aniya Gourdine: 11 points and eight rebounds
THE OWLS
> After dropping the past two games on the road against the Memphis Tigers and the UCF Knights, the Owls enter Wednesday's game ranked fourth in the AAC.
> Forward Mia Davis comes into the game needing only five points to become Temple's all-time leading scorer. This week's Big 5 Player of the Week, Davis leads the conference in points per game, minutes per game, and field goal percentage this season.
> Senior forward Alexa Williamson is coming off a double-double in her last game after putting up 12 points and 14 rebounds.
> Freshman guard Tiarra East has started the last two games for the Owls. In those games, East has averaged 31.0 minutes per game while scoring 13 points and securing 15 rebounds.
SCOUTING WICHITA STATE
> The Shockers enter Wednesday's contest ranked ninth in the AAC after most recently falling to the UCF Knights on Saturday afternoon.
> Wichita State is propelled by a balanced attack as six players average more than 7.8 points per game. Most notably, senior guard Mariah McCully paces the Shockers in points per game and steals per game.
> Junior forward Jane Asinde is the only other player on Wichita State averaging more than 10 points per game. Asinde also leads the team in rebounding.
LAST TIME THEY MET
> Temple got the best of Wichita State in their last meeting on Feb. 6, 2021, defeating the Shockers 65-57.
> The Owls used a strong first half to hold a comfortable 34-23 lead at the break.Â
> Wichita State came out and outplayed Temple in the second half, scoring 34 points to the Owls' 31. However, it wouldn't be enough to knock off Temple as the Owls completed the series sweep over the Shockers.Â
> Temple out-rebounded Wichita State, 40-30, 10 of which were offensive boards.Â
> The Owls finished the game shooting 40% from the floor while the Shockers ended with a field goal percentage of 42.9.
> Davis led the Owls with 17 points, while also adding seven boards.
> Freshman Jasha Clinton added 16 points for Temple along with five assists, two rebounds and a steal.Â
> Senior Emani Mayo also had a solid performance with nine points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals.Â
> Williamson rounded out the box score with her seven rebounds.
