Gymnastics Falls to No. 26 North Carolina during Dual Meet

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Temple Owls gymnastics team came up short to knocking off No. 26 North Carolina on Saturday night at Carmichael Arena, 195.425-195.600.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
> Graduate student Faith Leary paced the Owls on the floor with a 9.875, tying her with Elizabeth Culton of UNC for first place.
> The Tar Heels led throughout but the Owls chipped away at their counterparts lead after each last three rotations.
> The two teams split the four rotations. Temple would defeat the Heels on the bars, 48.750-48.550, and floor, 49.025-48.750.
> Owls' freshman Hannah Stallings (39.000) run of five straight all-around victories came to end on Saturday with a third-place finish behind North Carolina's Lali Dekanoidze (39.550) and Julia Knower (39.250).
> Stallings reset her career-high with a 9.875 on the beam.
 
BARS
> TU began on bars to start the dual as they tallied a 48.570.
> Sophomore Brooke Donabedian made her first appearance on bars this season as she tied the team-high with a 9.775.
> Freshman Sarah Stallings also tied for the team high (9.775), just missing her career-high of 9.800.
> Both Donabedian and Stallings tied for fourth overall with UNC's Briana Greenlow.
 
VAULT
> Sarah Stallings and Julianna Roland led the Cherry and White with matching 9.775's.
> Stallings earned  her second-best output this season (9.7), and marked fifth straight meet with at least a 9.7.
> Roland's score also marks the sixth straight score of 9.7 or better in six meet.
> Stallings and Roland tied for fifth on the vault behind UNC's Cory Shinohara first-place score of 9.875.
 
FLOOR
> The Owls closed the deficit to .400 as they scored 49.025 on the floor, the third time they would score 49-plus this season.
> Leary's first-place score of 9.875 was third time this season, and second straight meet she would register this score, and giving her an event win for the first time this season.
> Three TU gymnasts including, Leary, and sophomores Renee Schugman and Donabedian put together scores of 9.825 or better on the night.
> Donabedian and Schugman tied for fourth overall with 9.825's.
 
BEAM
> In the final rotation, three of the six Owls scored 9.8's or better for a team score of 48.975, their second-highest team score on the apparatus this season.
> Hannah Stallings tied for second overall with a career-high 9.875.
> Senior Ariana Castrence and Schugman followed behind in the overall event standings with scores of 9.825 and 9.800, good for fifth and sixth place.
> Donabedian and Roland also added scores of 9.7 or better.

Temple will return to McGonigle Hall for the second this season on Friday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. ET against Yale for its annual Pink Meet. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here.
