2.21.22 | Men's Golf

HILTON HEAD S.C. – Temple Golf finished the first two rounds of its spring season in ninth place in the 17-team field at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Monday. Eight of the teams were unable to complete their second round due to darkness and will do so prior to Tuesday's final round.

The two-day, 54-hole tournament is being held at the 6,913-yard, par-72 Arnold Palmer Signature Course.

Recapping the Day
> Junior co-captain Conor McGrath led the Owls and is tied for 18th overall with a three-over 147. After opening with four bogeys in the first 10 holes of the morning round, he ended the round strong with birdies on two of the last three holes for a three-over 75. McGrath had a better afternoon round, shooting even-par with a team-high seven birdies.
> Junior Buddy Hansen led Temple in the opening round shooting a one-over 73, but a double bogey on the second hole of the afternoon round contributed to a four-over 76. He is tied for 36th overall with a five-over 149.
> Sophomore Graham Chase, like Hansen, shot a 73 in the morning, courtesy of three birdies, but struggled in the afternoon with a five-over 77 to tie for 44th with a six-over 150.
> Freshman Ethan Whitney struggled to start the first round with a double bogey on his first hole, but he had two birdies and the team's first eagle of the spring season to end the morning with a three-over 75. Whitney shot four-over 76 in the second round to end the day tied for 51st with a seven-over 151.
> Senior co-captain Dawson Anders, struggled in the first round with a six-over 78, but improved three strokes in the afternoon with a three-over 75 to tie for 62nd with a nine-over 153.

The Field
> Mercer leads the field at two-under. Furman is in second place at +3, followed by ECU (+7), host Francis Marion (+8), and defending champion Augusta (+9), which has two players still needing to complete their final hole.
> ECU's Tyler DeChellis leads the field through two rounds with a three-under 141.

Quotable: Head coach Brian Quinn
> "It was a long day, we started at 8am and finished the last 2 holes in the dark at 7pm. We were rusty with some of our shot-making today. Today was only our sixth day playing golf outside in months."
> "I look forward to seeing how we will respond tomorrow, I saw a lot of positives today and look forward to our team having a strong closing round."
