Women's Gymnastics Closes Out Regular Season with a 193.675 at Minnesota Quad

3.12.22 | Women's Gymnastics

MINNEAPOLIS – The Temple gymnastics team finished the regular season on Saturday at the Minnesota Quad Meet against No. 8 Minnesota, No. 22 Utah State, and LIU inside Maturi Pavilion. The Owls came away with a third-place score of 193.625.

 

The Golden Gophers earned the meet victory with a 197.850, the Aggies came in second place with a 195.200, while fellow EAGL member LIU finished in fourth place with a 193.200.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

> Minnesota earned the meet victory with the help of placing gymnasts in the top three of three of the four events. 

> UM's Ona Loper and Lexy Ramler tied for first place in the all-around with a 39.650, while Utah State's Rebecca Wells finished in third with a 38.975.

> Temple's Ariana Castrence was the lone all-around performer as she finished in fourth place with a 38.600.

> Overall in the four events, senior Tori Edwards was the top-scoring performer for Temple as she earned a 9.825 score on the floor, her ninth 9.8 or better this season.

 

BEAM

> The Owls scored a 48.025 on the beam, putting them fourth after rotation one.

> Julianna Roland led the Owls on the apparatus as she added her first of two 9.8's on the evening, her fifth 9.8 or better this season.

> Brooke Donabedian added a 9.725, the second straight meet she's matched that score.

 

FLOOR

> The Cherry and White scored 48.775 on the floor, its highest score of the four events on Saturday.

> Along with Tori Edwards' 9.825, fellow senior Faith Leary added a 9.800 score, her seventh score of 9.800 or better this season.

> Sophomore Renee Schugman led off on the floor for the Owls as she tallied a 9.750, her eighth straight score of 9.750 or better.

> Roland earned her seventh 9.700 or better score of the season with 9.725.

 

VAULT 

> Roland's second 9.800 of the night came on rotation three as she led the Owls to a 48.500 on the vault.

> Freshman Hannah Stallings earned a 9.725 on the apparatus, the sixth straight meet she's reached a 9.700 or better.

> Freshman Anna Hill has now scored at least a 9.700 on the vault in every meet she's competed in this season as she scored a 9.700 on Saturday.

 

BARS

> Temple closed out the meet on the bars, scoring a 48.325.

> Freshman Sarah Stallings led the Owls with a 9.800, her third 9.800 or better in four meets.

> Senior Ariana Castrence was the only other TU performer to score above a 9.700 on the bars as she scored her second consecutive 9.775.

 

Temple will now focus on the 2022 EAGL Championship next Saturday in Washington, D.C., at the Smith Center on the George Washington University campus.
